Interview with TWELV

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: "Takin' over" by G22 (a girl group) is one of the more recent songs that I've worked with and I've learned a lot that I never would have thought of from working on that song. I cowrote, co-produced, mixed and mastered the song.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Being a songwriter as well, I pitch songs to labels in Korea because I've really been inspired from the quality and style of their production recently, bringing talents all over the world to create such interesting sounds and breaking records.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital plugins nowadays can be sounding so scarily close to the analog version that it doesn't really matter anymore.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I like that I'm making art with all these talented people and being a part of their process and creativity just give me a level of happiness that is unmatched

  9. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  10. A: "What if I don't have a DAW (logic, ableton, pro tools) and don't know how to operate one?" Don't worry I can setup a remote recording session and I will walk you through the whole process.

  11. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  12. A: That the better the producer's gear, the better the quality of their output.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I usually ask which artists inspire the most, and in what style would they like their song to be in.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Find someone who you can resonate well with and communicate their ideas to you properly. Also make sure that you like the quality of the songs from their past projects.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Laptop, headphones. Midi keys, audio interface & Microphone.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: II started out as an artist, and got inspired by people around me using their DAWs and creating everyday. I started learning under my mentors label and eventually got to write and produce for artists, pop groups, pageants, and even score for tv shows

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: Clean and powerful.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Babyface, Finneas, Pharrell, Mariah Carey. I like working with artist who also write songs, because with the lyrics and melody, I would know what kind of emotion that we can portray using the production techniques.

  25. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  26. A: Eq your reverb & delays,

  27. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  28. A: Pop, R&B, Pop Groups, Ballad, Full band, Acoustic, Funk

  29. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  30. A: My strongest skill is translating non-music instructions and applying it into the song. You want it dark, bright, fluffy, airy, pumpy, fluffy, clean, dirty or sexy? You got it.

  31. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  32. A: I bring personality, creativity and choices that would make the listener more interested as the song progress.

  33. Q: What's your typical work process?

  34. A: My workflow is customized depending on the clients needs. Usually the artist just sends me a demo and I work on the production right away for about a week (max). Send the fully produced track to them so they can track the vocals, mix and master their project, and I give them unlimited revisions until they are happy.

  35. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  36. A: I use Logic Pro, running on a 2019 Macbook pro. I play on an 88-key midi keyboard from audio when arranging, I have 2 pairs of studio monitors that I mix in, which runs into my Audient audio interface.

  37. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  38. A: Babyface. Finneas. Pharrell. Rick Rubin. Mariah Carey. Max Martin. Phil collins. Quincy Jones.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: I mostly do full production and songwriting. That would be the whole package from the music arrangement, recording, mixing and mastering. If an artist needs a little help with the songwriting I would gladly do so as well. The important thing is that we will have a fully finished and polished product that is ready to be heard by the world.
