Interview with Junah Smyth

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I havent got any credits as of yet, but I am proud in the tracks that I make, and songs that I write,

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: music. music. music. music..........

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: im new here so I am not familiar with much of them, but I really think Mickey shiloh is awesome, I havent worked with her, but I think she's very talented, so go check out her profile.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: digital....cause I got Logic Pro x at 16 years of age

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I can promise, a really nice emotional piano piece, good lyrics and topline, verses/hooks,

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The love and fun in it, there's nothing better than listening to what you made, and get chills all over, after your working hours on a track you were thinking is just gonna be a garbage piece,

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: I havent worked with many customers yet, as I have said before, I only make stuff on my own, and very rarely work with anyone else on whatever they need help with, weather its just recording vocals, or something like that,

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: that its a moneyless profession, I mean yeah sure, I only got payed quite good money playing in bars and pubs, but if there's money in that then theres definitely a profession/job in this.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I ask them the vibe and sound they are looking for in a song, and talk with them about the inspiration they want us to bring into it , when we write lyrics together.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: if you want me to write lyrics for you, or topline a hook, then I think we could work well together.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: guitar/, audio recorder, notepad, focusrite scarlett piano.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career path has only been this, and it still is. i have been doing this since I was little, so one and a half decades.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: My style is very pop/hip hop oriented, I love pop/country and R&B. Production wise im very pop, hip hop, based, and love putting emotion in my songs,

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work with Ryan Tedder. he's probably my favourite producer/songwriter out there, and he's very talented.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: I only started making beats and tracks, on Logic Pro x, two years ago, when I was 16. I am now 18, almost 19, before that, I was just making songs on piano, and playing piano all the time, in pubs bars and a wedding, So tips, I guess even I am still learning those, but id say what every producer/artist says, keep on working hard and efficiently, thats what I did/do, it only pays off, just hours and hours of work all the time, I just keep creating, I write, and if I see potential in a song I made, then i produce it, but I just keep putting my hours day and night. And I do my best to get the track to be as good as it can.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: For the most part I only work on my own. making demos that I can send to artists, and making beats and tracks that I upload to my soundcloud, which you can listen to, on my profile.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Piano. And lyrics, and beats/tracks.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: thats a difficult one for sure, because I tend to realise that a song is only as good as you yourself are.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I make music all the time. I make a track/beat, and structure it in a way that if I see a potential topline on there, I can instantly put my headphones on and press record, on my already complete track, which I can then sing on,

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio setup, is, quaint, small, in a attic, with a focus rite scarlet not the best, gear in the world but good enough to cater to your needs, and get the sound you will want.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I am very inspired by onerepublic, margolnick, Justin Bieber, and kacey musgraves. As for who inspires me, music production wise, id say Charlie Puth, Monsters & Strangers, and Alex Mendoza.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I more often than not, supply clients with production, lyrics, and an overall interest in making the experience of working together as fun and as sufficient as possible,
