Not even gonna talk about the awesomeness of his bass playing. In a word, professional.

If you want a guy to do what he says, when he says it, and be 100% happy, Skeez is your go-to.

What I love most about working with Skeez is that he's so versatile in his playing, and knowledgeable about many styles and genres. He's easy to work with and a positive person as well, which is a huge plus. From funk to punk and everything in-between, Skeez is my go-to bass player!

Skeez is top notch bass player. Fluid in funk and soul while equally bold to handle a hard rock or grungier track. He’s got a great ear and solid time. You’ll love the sound he captures. I’ve worked on over a dozen projects and live events with Skeez since 2005. Could not endorse him with more confidence. His posted rates are a steal!

As a fellow musician / bass player Skeez has always been my go to sub whenever I can’t make a gig. Skeez is passionate about his craft, very reliable, and a heck of a nice guy. He brings creativity and a solid grooves to original songs as he does with his current live band project.

Skeez is an amazing bass player who has the experience and creativity to bring not only what you want or need to the table but he also can introduce parts and pieces you hadn’t imagined. He is the hook master! Truly a professional and worth every penny.

Interview with Skeez Nava

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Well I'm proud of a lot of projects I've done but I would have to say the new cuts I'm working on with my band The Neighborhood Sound. I'm playing bass/co-writing on this album

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: New cuts from my band The Neighborhood Sound

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes Serg Dimitrijevic and Kristian Attard. Both are wonderful guys and pro's at what they do

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: It really depends on what you're going for. The warmth of Analog is always a win when it comes to a band setting but digital has it's perks as well

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I will always be honest and give you 120%! Communication is key and I will always be here for questions and comments

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I never looked at this as a "job" when you love what you do but, I would have to say all the wonderful people and musicians I get to meet or work with on a constant basis. It really feeds my soul with love and passion

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How much do you charge. I usually tell them how much is your budget and go from there. I am always down to work out a way to work within their budget but I still need to feed my family

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I was born with this "Gift". It took years and years of practice and dedication to get where I'm at now and it's going to take years and years of practice and dedication to get where I want to be!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What is your overall feel or goal of the song?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Well I may not be an "A" lister (not yet at least but I'm getting there :)) But I can still provide the same skill, service and can do attitude as a player with a massive reseme. Just follow your heart and you can't go wrong

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: my G&L and GK rig

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: My career has always been music. I stopped touring for a while to raise my children but I've been at it for 30 plus years

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: The biggest compliment I get is " I can always tell it's you playing within seconds of listening to a band or album". I have a distinct attack and light touch that I have developed over years of playing.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Mayer Hawthorne because his ability to groove in a Doo Wop sort of way would be so much fun to back

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Yes play for the song not for yourself! Really listen to what's happening and remember that less is more (unless told otherwise)

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Soul, rock, Americana and blues

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Doing Laundry ;)

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Attack, Originality and fun

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I'll listen to the song quit a few times so I can get a better idea of what the artist wants or is looking for. I'll play through it for a bit so I can get comfortable, record it then send it back and then make any changes that the artist wants. I'm not happy until the artist is

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Since I only record bass I use an apple computer with my GK Fusion 550 as my interface with Logic Pro as my recording software. Pretty basic but I get great results and tone!

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Well to be honest I would have to say my friends inspire me. I've been in the scene for a long time and have played with a lot of people but what it really comes down to is, I can learn and be inspired by the beginning musician and by the seasoned professional

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I go in and lay it down as hard, groovy and melodic as I can. No matter the genre I'm recording There's always a pocket to find
