Interview with Daniel Troncoso

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: Deliver a decent job and according to what was discussed.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Play instruments and live with music

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: Not yet

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: Remove ambient noise. Even though I am in a studio where the noise is low, there is always a little noise either when moving from the chair or when breathing. Currently I process the recordings and remove ambient noise.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: Hello, thank you for contacting me. How can I help you? :)

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Sometimes the cheap turns out to be expensive. But in others for simple things they charge too much money. Therefore, it is best to search patiently.

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: Engine, oil, ship, rudder and anchor. With the well armed ship I can go and return to the island.

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I'm not a professional. What I have learned has been on my own since I was 8 years old. I was improving thanks to a great teacher when I attended the 2nd grade of high school called Felipe Vidal. He is amazing!

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Acoustic indie dream

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I really love Lana del rey. She's unique and her style is very atmospheric. I would love to do some work with her someday.

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: When you get an idea don't let it go. Record it, you can make a really great song with that ;)

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: Indie folk, acoustic pop, latin pop.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: Atmosphere guitars and ukuleles. Create arrangements with them.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I contribute with what I learned since I was little: Guitar played with the heart, ukulele played with love and percussions played with the soul.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: First I get in contact with the client to find out what type of work they need and what the value of it would be. I ask you to send me all the possible details of the type of song we will work on, the BPM, the key, what techniques you want it to use (arpeggios, chords, palm mute, lead) or what type of rhythm you want me to perform. In case the song doesn't exist yet, I could help you compose it. I record several takes of what the client asks me for and send him the best 3. If you don't like them, I can re-record them. I gladly accept the suggestions!

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: Well, it's not a big deal. Philco condenser microphone GM100 with anti-pop, lectern arm, headphones P47 wireless, Notebook HP Stream 14, Live sound card V8 and HP gaming mouse m100.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I love the style of The Lumineers, how their stringed instruments sound and with some percussion you can get a catchy song. The vibe of the group Of monsters and men also inspires me quite a bit when creating chords and melodies. The way Taylor Swift uses a few well-chosen chords and the sum of exquisite lyrics is something that fascinates me too much.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: I like that my clients are satisfied. Therefore I ask them in advance what kind of work they need and try to do my best. I record several takes until the client is comfortable.
