Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Tone and delivery. The guitars job is to sound good, and support the song!
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My original band "King Locomotive" was the most free I've felt in my creative journey. It was raw, loud, and just a blast. Ive included our song "Shakedown" in my profile.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently I am working on an Americana/Indie project.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Corey Lawson! He's a great producer and is always delivering great products.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both! we are at the state with technology where all things have a place and purpose.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will listen to every request and try to deliver to the best of my ability.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating with passionate people who love the process as much as I do.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Most times it is about turn around. I like to have songs done as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I don't really like the notion of "set ways to do things". Every song is different and there is no cut and paste to how I approach anything.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What tones/sounds inspire you? What emotion are you trying to convey?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: I love conversation and talking about the song itself. Always be honest , I'm only happy when you are happy.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Gibson es335 , Marshall JTM 45, Shure Sm57, Nobles Odr1, and a tuner lol
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I grew up playing in bars in Detroit and just had to go where the music was. After moving to Nashville in 2010, I got a real education in musicianship. Ive been solely relying on music as my career for the last 12 years!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Familiar and somewhat aggressive. I like to bring a classic tonality and vibe to the current music landscape.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I love all things rock! so for me the easy answers are the iconic voices of that genre. I would love nothing more than to work with Joe Walsh or Paul Rodgers.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: It's the little sounds that often end up being the make or break in a song. Especially with guitars a lot of it is what isn't played over what is.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Country, Indie, Americana
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to think I bring an edge and classic feel to songs.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I tend to enjoy speaking with the artist first. I like to get a dialogue going about influence, tone, and the message the artist is trying to convey. I then will spend time dissecting the song, then making it my mission to give the best performance I can.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My remote studio consists of a mix of analog and digital gear. I have classic amps from brands like Marshall, Fender etc. Along with newer software plugins. I mostly run my classic tube heads into the UAD OX all running through my UAD interface into Logic.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I am a huge fan of all things rock from the 60's to now. I aspire to bring all of the classic edge and tonality of the musicians we all grew up listening to. Whether it be "Steppenwolf" or "Soundgarden".
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Remote guitar tracking and production.
