Interview with Callum McConville
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: The type of session we are doing and what they're looking for at the end of the project firstly so i know whether this is to fit in with a larger project, if its a single for release or just looking for some production demos to pitch to other artists, I also like to ask for a little playlist of some music they've been enjoying and would like to potentially make so I can gather some potential sounds and come up with some little ideas prior to the session to get things going nice and quickly for when the inspiration really hits.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Make sure you find someone who's best suited to your genre and have a chat with them to make sure your expectations match up in order to build a good relationship with your collaborator.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A Macbook Pro with Logic Pro, A great interface like the UA Apollo, A Neumann TLM 103 Microphone, A Nord Piano and an MPC
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started off playing in bands and touring, playing across the world. Managing to share a stage with some big industry names such as James Bay, The 1975, Tom Walker, Panic! at The Disco, The View & Moonchild. After I finished playing in bands I began to write and produce my own music as well as contributing towards other artists. Working with writers and producers who have worked with The Vamps, Maisie Peters, Tiesto & Lewis Capaldi.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I would describe my style as groovy vintage inspired pop
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with Bruno Mars or Charlie Puth, both fantastic song writers and producers who are writing such great pop music but with so much lovely chord structures and drum beats.

A: shift your hi hats slightly off grid to the right and you'd be surprised the change of feel will do to your drum pattern.
