Martin Levan - Red Kite Studio - Producer / Engineer / Mixer - Wales

I started my journey in the music business in the early 70s at Morgan Studios, London. I quickly progressed to engineering and ‘cut my teeth’ working on sessions with artists such as Jethro Tull, Cat Stevens, Seals and Crofts, Man, The Strawbs, Rod Stewart, Argent, Neil Ardley, Hot Chocoate, Blue Mink, The Kinks, Murray Head, The Roches ……

Since then, I have produced, mixed and engineered albums for John Martyn (Grace and Danger), Andrew Lloyd Webber (Variations, Requiem), June Tabor, (Apples, Ashore), Paul Carrack (These Days), Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden), Tristan Mackay (Out Along the Wire, Wire and Wood), Colosseum II (Wardance), Barbara Thompson’s Paraphernalia, Trilok Gurtu (Broken Rhythms), Any Trouble (Wheels in Motion), Ralph McTell (Water of Dreams), Leveret (New Anything), Gary Boyle (The Dancer, Electric Glide, Games), Antonio Forcione (Touchwood, Tears of Joy), Sarah Brightman (Dreamchaser) and many more.

After recording Andrew Lloyd Webber’s classic ‘Variations’ album in the late 70s, I was invited to 'try my hand' in the world of theatre. This gave me the opportunity to create the Original Sound Design for many West End and Broadway musical productions including Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Sunset Boulevard, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Starlight Express, Carrie, Aspects of Love, Beautiful Game, Whistle Down the Wind ….

I also produced and engineered many cast albums including co-producing the Grammy award winning original Broadway Cast Album of Cats and the Grammy nominated Kiss of The Sperderwoman.

I continue to enjoy recording and mixing projects from a wide range of genre and I am available for production, engineering and mixing work at either my ‘Red Kite Studio' or anywhere in the world.
