Guillaume LEJAULT on SoundBetter

"The Sound Magician" - Professional Mixer and Sound Engineer since 2008. Specialized in vocal treatment, among other things. His mixes are wide, detailed and full of punch. He knows perfectly how to capture sounds and mix tracks to makes them shine and professional. He worked with the best french and international artists.

" The Sound Magician " : that's how the people he works with call him.

Guillaume spent 10 years as house engineer in the famous "Studio Grande Armée" in Paris (France), where he learned his job and acquired his expertise, working in a wide range of styles (pop, rock, r&b, reggae, jazz, rap, classical...), with many french and international artists such as Pink Martini, Françis Cabrel, Elvis Costello, Patrick Bruel, Jenifer...
He became freelance in 2018.
In addition to his work with major label artists, he created his own studio, where he records, mixes and produces independant artists.

He was originaly an electronics engineer, and he is a multi-instrumentalist and knows music theory.
So he aproaches his projects with technical proficiency, while keeping a great artistic and musical ear.

Artists trust him for his professionalism, his patience, his attention to details, and his ability to match the sound and vision they have in mind.

Once again Guillaume knew how to give soul to my song and the resulting harmony of sound was quite magnificent. Professional, very patient, and quick to make amendments when asked. Guillaume is the best.

I worked with Guillaume 2 times, for 2 differents albums (one in 2012, the other one in 2020) with rock or pop-rock bands. Each time, Guillaume was really good, the sound pleased us very much and we were obviously dealing with someone who is extremely patient, rigorous and attentive. A reel pleasure to work with him, I totally recommand him. Thanks Guillaume !

Having worked with Guillaume on several projects :
Guillaume is a highly seasoned sound engineer, having worked for many years in one of the famest legendary studio in Paris. His 5* experience allows him to cumulate a deep and rare knowledge of both hardware analog machines and digital plug-ins.
He has a unique capacity to find solutions or doing some "sound miracles" in almost every situation, in a short timeframe and keeping a complete serenity.
Working with Guillaume is then a big pleasure : for his talent on one side but also for his attitude / working spirit.

Guillaume LEJAULT is a sound surgeon, a genius hertz sculptor. His patience and his art of mastering both the machines and the psychology help me a lot for the finalization of my project. Without him it would have been impossible. Always concerned about whether or not everything is right for me, Guillaume is really the key to finalizing a project. Guillaume mixed my first album at the Grande Armée studio, and we met again for my album "Le Sourire" which appeared in September. I have great confidence in him and I recommend his services with my eyes closed. Go for it, you won't be disappointed

Interview with Guillaume LEJAULT

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I originally have an engineering degree in electronics. I worked as a network and telecoms consultant for 4 years, but my passion for music led me to change paths and retrain as a sound engineer, the job I have been doing for 15 years. - 1997 / 2002 : Engineering degree in Electronics, Telecoms and Networks speciality (Polytech Nice, France) - 2002 / 2006 : Network and Telecoms Consultant (Spie Communications, Malakoff, France) - 2006 / 2007 : Audio Engineer Diploma at the SAE Institute Paris. - 2007 / 2008 : Internships in various renowned parisian studios. - 2008 / 2018 : Sound Engineer and Mixer in the famous Studio de la Grande Armée in Paris. I worked with a lot of french and international artists, mixing and recording all kind of music and music sets, from rap to orchestras. - 2018 / Now : I built my own studio, and I record, mix and master as a freelance.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: The most important : a room very well treated acoustically, and sets of speakers I know by heart. So I can be sure and confident in what I am earing and doing, to get the best possible result. - Recorder / Player : Mac Pro 2012 12 cores with Pro Tools Ultimate and a lot of plug ins. - Converter : Lynx Aurora 16 - Monitors 1 : Yamaha NS-10M powered with a Bryston 3B NRB - Monitors 2 : Genelec 1030A - Monitors 3 : Auratone - Preamps : Seventh Circle Audio with Neve (2), API (2), Jensen (2), Millenia (2) - Microphones : U47 Tube (clone), Neumann KM86 (2), SM7B, SM57 (2), SM58 (3), Audix Drums Kit - Compressors : JLM Audio LA500 (2)

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Less is more : sometimes, when you add too many tracks / instruments on a production, you loose song's efficiency, comprehension and clarity. For exemple, it's better to have one instrument with a good sound playing a part, than several different instruments playing this same part (unless you really want this dubbing effect).

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I mainly mix music tracks. I also record all types of instruments, music sets and voices.
