SEBASTIAN ABT on SoundBetter

I am a session drummer musician, equipped. I work with multiple musical styles, I always had good feedback from the people I work with.

I'm a drums lover, who likes to experiment with every aspect of the sound chain (from the instrument to the mics) and with the nuances that the music requires.
I specialize in jazz, from which I take its harmony and improvisation, and the genres that derivate from it such as R&B, soul and hip hop

Sebastian is a very great drummer. I played with him on my records and also on my tours. I will definitely work with him again. 100% recommendable.

Interview with SEBASTIAN ABT

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am part of a group that makes productions for different artists, in that case my role ranges from drummer to producer and mixing engineer.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Today I find myself working on a rock album. also doing collaborations with musicians who compose. I am also doing a live session

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: yes of course, pianist, keyboardist, Fran Cirimele, bassist and producer Mariano Promet

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: digital and analog. My instrument is clearly analog, so from the tuning to the way it is played, it is analog... now the result of recording on my computer with my plate and the microphones ends up being digital

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: My promise is that no job will be left without the client being satisfied.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love being able to generate different results in terms of audio and in terms of feeling when recording. and I also like to create the lines from scratch.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: In general, I think it is about technical issues, what equipment I have, and how I would present the work. My answer is forceful, I have great audio, and I am well equipped

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Maybe it is trying to ensure that the client is satisfied, sometimes regardless of how many revisions have to be made.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I like to know what they are looking for with the production, with the audio, and if they have audio references to better achieve the objectives to be met.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: First is to know if the style you are looking for is appropriate to achieve a good result, then in the reviews you can see if they were good previous experiences... also listening to the track helps to know possible approaches

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: I would take my bass drum, snare drum, mic sound board and my computer to an island

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been practicing my instrument since I was a child, I started recording about 18 years ago, in my experience of drum production and recording, I have gone through many different studios. I currently have my own recording room, so I already have experience to achieve different sound results.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: I have several musical aspects, heavy sound, if necessary, since I started studying rock, and its derivatives; and I also specialized in jazz, so I can change my audio a lot depending on the context.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would like to work with people who require subtleties, expression in music, and amalgamate the composition with my instrument in the closest functional way.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Whenever I think about a musical production, I look for sound and mixing references to be able to achieve a more accurate raw material.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Soul Hihop Rock Indie Funk Jazz

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I think my strength is that I'm not ostentatious unnecessarily, if I have to record just one hit of hihat because that's what the song requires, or peel my fingers to make it sound. that's what it will be like

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I believe that I can bring to a song what is necessary to make it shine, I believe that my strength is in the interpretation, so I work and record to give the song the desired intention.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: In principle it depends on the job, if it is to create a drum for a track, or if there is already a programmed drum. in case there isn't, I make a mockup with my drums (it's what I like the most, creating based on what I hear) to find out if that was the idea that the composer had in his ear, or maybe it wasn't what thought, but from my idea something new arises. Once approved, I go on to record the final one

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio has a complete Pearl Master Custom drum kit, all maple 20x18 bass drum, tom 10, tom 12, tom 14, a 14 x 6.5 Gretsch Brooklyn snare Mapex black panter 14 x 3.5 copper snare cymbal ride Bosphorus Antique 20" crash ride Master Work Jazz Master 19" crash 16" Sabian A custom HH 14" Zildjian Kerope 3 Mics Shure Sm 57 1 Shure Beta 52 2 Condenser Neumann Km185 Mt Interface D Audio Presonus Audiobox 1818vsl Usb

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: KENDRICK LAMAR YUSSEF DAYES TOM MISCH ASAP ROCKY CHRIS DAVE I couldn't not name everyone

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I usually work creating drums for other people's compositions, trying to find a way to bring my sound to their music is always a challenge that I enjoy
