Interview with Jordi Garcia

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I have recently graduated from the sound engineering degree at the musical university of Barcelona. During the four years of study I have collaborated with many artists inside and outside the school in different types of projects from musical composition to studio recording, mixing for short films and sound design. This knowledge of sound and music allows me to approach projects with a broader perspective than most professionals.

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: Make sure you do everything intentional. Don't use sounds because other artists do, be intentional wiith your decisions and find a sound to express your emotion, not an emotion to justify a sound.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: Every mainstream song goes through a process of mixing and mastering that brings the professional sound to it. That's what I do, I make sure your music meets industry sound standards so you only have to worry about creating.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: I like to ask my clients for the songs that inspired them to create their own's. That way I can get a more precise look of the sound they are looking for. If they don't have any refferences I like to suggest some examples to make sure we know where we are headed. Once we know the objective and I start working, I like to ask for some feedback while I'm on the process. That way the artist gets to see how is his song being treated and make sure he is able to make suggestions and contribute to the final result.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I work with my M1 Pro 14' Macbook Pro, a pair of KRK speakers, an 80 Ohm Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro and a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 audio interface. My studio space is acoustically treated by myself with self-made rock wool acoustic panels.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Drake, Blxst, Russ, Travis Scott, Daniel Caesar, Giveon, Justin Bieber, Jorja Smith and more

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I mix hip hop and R&B vocals and instrumentals to match the sound preference of the client.
