"There is a contradictory feeling in Mr. Csatari’s playing — organized dissonance, loose concision, meticulous roughness — which makes it special." ~ The New York Times
Born in Dallas, Texas; half-raised in rural New Hampshire; and based in New York City since
2007; environmental musician Tom Csatari (pronounced chuhtaree) is an active composer,
arranger, guitarist, and writer in various projects throughout New York City and beyond. His work draws on a patchwork Americana upbringing, indebted to both ‘70s environmentalism
and to the still-thriving downtown free jazz scene in New York. I’m searching for the interface
between popularized sounds, pitch noise, and collaborative musical histories—towards some
sort of post-postmodern sonic environmentalism.
