Aaron Kalmbach

Writer/Producer/Session Player

Aaron Kalmbach on SoundBetter

Music has been my life as long as I can remember. I love the process of creating and collaborating!

I mostly work with Alternative, Rock and Acoustic music!

I have primarily played in bands across North America over the last decade, and have thousands of hours of studio experience.

Being from Canada, I won a SOCAN (our equivalent to ASCAP or BMI) songwriting competition in 2009, have been commissioned to write music for NBC, had placements in Canadian Indie Films, have music in large publishing cataloges, and learned under 2 multi platinum producers at (the now defunct) Coney Island Studios in Los Angeles.

The primary services I can offer are songwriting (composition, arrangement, melody, harmony, lyrics), production, and session playing (electric/acoustic guitar, bass guitar, vocal harmonies)! I also can offer basic editing and mixing services!

I fully believe in only doing a project if it feels right for everyone. I am flexible with pricing because I think that the art is more important than a pay check, and if you are going to do something, you do it all the way and take whatever time is needed to get it right.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Aaron Kalmbach

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am working on a folk EP for a very talented artist from Toronto which will be our second EP working together!

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: 15 years!

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Brian Eno, his ability to paint soundscapes is unparalleled.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I have worked with a lot of great analogue gear (LA2As, 1176s, Pultecs, Fairchilds, 1073s, even real EMTs and a Cooper which was wild) and the difference now with the high end plugins in my opinion is not enough to justify the amount of money the hardware costs.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To not take a job I don't think I could do great work on, and to be transparent, fair and work until you are happy!

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That it doesn't feel like work.

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That it doesn't take a lot of time!

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Take the time to have a zoom call, meeting face to face and discussing the project is really important. I think that when you are working on something you have to be excited about It and genuinely enjoy it.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Mac, Strat, Apollo, Neumann, MIDI keyboard
