Interview with Fabián Ramos

Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm mixing singles for different artists in the USA, Spain, Chile and Colombia.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both worlds fascinate me, Analog because of its color and texture, also because there are machines with a beautiful level of dynamic range to be able to clip, Digital because of its versatility and ease of use, it avoids me making recalls.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Premium sound, I consider that I have focused on bringing my sound and the sound of my clients to a current and fresh sound, the sound that people have been used to in recent years.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Jacob Collier has an incredible musical capacity, in addition to not being tied to a genre, his productions, although they are numerous in track files, are too enriching, I would learn a lot from his way of covering a production.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Produce as if there were no mix, mix as if there were no mastering.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Since I worked for a worldwide mixing company I have the ability to mix any genre, although my strengths are: Pop, Hip Hop, Boombap, R&B, Trap, Reaggaeton, Rock, Electronic Music and Gospel.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The client sends me the material and a demo of the complete song, it can be a pre mix or a rough mix, I also ask the client for their references to take their song to the level of references or higher, then it is up to me to deliver the work, I try to deliver in very fast times without sacrificing quality.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have different analog machines available (you can see it in the description of gear), but in order not to do much re-call I resort to working most of the time in the box, I have countless plugins from big audio companies, in my studio I have different devices listening that makes my mixes sound great on most devices.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Serban Ghenea and Bruce Swedien as mixing engineers, Jacob Collier as musician and producer, Coldplay as artist, John Mayer, Michael Jackson and The Weekend.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I edit voices and instruments (tune and rhythm), mix and master, my job is to deliver the best result in the shortest possible time.
