Julia Rahm on SoundBetter

I'm a classically-trained vocal artist, available for hire as a session singer. I have over ten years experience singing classical music of various genres, from medieval chant to baroque to contemporary. I can sing proficiently in Italian, French, German and Latin. My work has been featured on the Tubi original thriller "A Kill for a Kill."

"In the mystical realm of music, Julia Rose Rahm reigns supreme as a true enchantress of sound. Drawing from her diverse background in classical vocal training, Sufi spiritual roots, and a touch of fairylike essence, Julia’s artistry knows no bounds."

With over 25 years experience in singing, I am here to contribute my vocal stylings to your project in the way that best serves you! While my main focus has been in classical singing (from opera to medieval chant) I am proficient in many styles, including jazz, musical theater, folk, folk pop, alternative and indie. I sing traditional Irish Gaelic songs as well, learned from the great master songstress Noirin Ni Riain.

Julia is a fantastic vocalist. I asked her to sing an a cappella piece in Latin for big pivotal scene in a film I scored. It came out perfectly. She records herself well, communicates well, and delivers on time like the pro she is.

I also was fortunate to work with her on her solo album project on which she showed an incredible range of timbres and vocal approaches. Lots of creativity as well.

    Highly recommended!

Interview with Julia Rahm

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I would have to say I'm most proud of my latest album, Wound Tapestry! It's close to my soul.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Brian Steckler is an incredible composer, arranger and music producer!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: You will be happy with the final creation, and I will work hard to make this a reality for you.

  7. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  8. A: That classically trained singers are uptight and stuffy and can't stretch themselves to use their solid technique to perform a vast array of styles and genres. I never limit myself to boxes and always seek expansion and growth.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Remember I am here to serve your creative vision, so let's have some fun and make something beautiful together!

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I started off in the musical theater singing world, and eventually landed on learning Vivaldi solos for a voice teacher I found while studying abroad in Paris, France. This led me to tour to Chartres cathedral, as well as castles and sites along the Loire Valley to perform. I started to study classical singing and opera soon after, culminating in my Master's degree in Voice Performance from Roosevelt University in Chicago. I performed in several operas over the years, while also composing my own music. Last year, I put out my first solo album entitled Wound Tapestry, which I am now performing live in San Diego. My music producer for this album, Brian Steckler, who composes for film, hired me to do the choral vocals for the film "A Kill for a Kill." I am now performing Hildegard von Bingen chants, as well as Irish Gaelic traditional songs along with my own music. My sight-reading skills are very honed now after several years as a hired section leader for several choirs.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: Lyrical, ethereal, experimental, warm, eclectic

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on music that incorporates more lyrical or classical-style singing in some way. Whether that be recording layered vocals to an intricate choral piece already composed, or improvising ethereal vocals over a track to create a mystical ambience. I also do back-up vocals for many styles, including but not limited to folk, indie pop/rock, or jazz.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Recording pre-written vocals and choral compositions. Improvising ambient vocals over a track.
