Interview with L13
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One of my favorite projects I worked on is an album called "ZOMB" by Incognito ?. I was one of 3 engineers on the project, the other 2 are signed to labels, and/or work in a major studio. The project was a total of 33 tracks. I engineered 13 of them by myself. That was the first time I was able to directly compare myself to successful engineers, and 11 of my 13 tracks you couldn't tell which engineer had mixed the song! That was a great feeling.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Progress! Every day I am working on getting better in some fashion. Some times its small improvements, but its better than nothing!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Hopefully I will soon!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital! Takes up less space lol
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to provide you with a product you are not disappointed in!
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Meeting new people! There are so many talented people across the world that I would have never had a chance to interact with if it wasn't for music!
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: How many revisions will you do? - Unlimited (Within reason guys) How many years have you been engineering? -4 years engineering for myself and other artist Do you have music on Spotify? -Yes. I have my own songs, and playlist with tracks I have mixed for other artist.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that this is a easy hobby. Yes, it is fun. Yes, it is a challenge. This is also how I pay my bills, so it is work and I want to provide a quality service.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Do they have any specifications? Examples: Release date/turn around time, or specific effects.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Be confident in your investment! Make sure you are working with someone that will provide a quality service that will benefit you! This is your art. You want to handle it with care.

A: My style is outside the box. I have done mixing, and features for artist with many different styles! I try not to put myself in a box by sticking to one particular style. My style goes with the vibes.

A: That is an easy answer! Lil Wayne, every single time. I have been a huge fan since I was a child, and get a lot of inspiration from him.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: A good mix, won't save a bad recording.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work with Hip-Hop, but I am always willing to learn and looking to branch out!
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is being able to know when something is too much. A lot of artist, engineers, and producers like to try adding a bunch of unnecessary sounds. When in reality, sometimes less is more!
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring the sauce! I have the knowledge, and experience to be able to enhance your track to the next level. No more "boring" mixes.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Typically, when it comes to mixing & mastering my process begins with making sure the vocals are presented in the right fashion! Making sure the vocals blend well with the beat, but stand out from other artist in the genre. Then I start to add in the extra effects that can really help make a track POP! If the artist has specific recommendations, I will usually start with those instructions. When It comes to doing features, I find the concept first. I figure out what message the artist wants to get across to their audience. Then, I figure out the melodies/flow I would like to start with, and build from there!
