Interview with Bluddymix

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: one day I was at a friends studio waiting for a client. I decided to do something with my laptop while waiting and I was still on it when the client entered a sang a wonderful melody to the beat I was making...well I ended up producing, mixing and mastering the song and it made wave in the eastern part of Nigeria.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: an album project for kingpower entertainment(in Japan).

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm new here, so I can't say for now.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital. I started with Analog and I know how hard it is to get them analog gears and their cost and moving them around and setting up for hours. however, starting with analog teaches you all the rudiments and techniques you may require than starting with the digital. but I prefer the digital.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: it's not just a promise, but I can never make bad music, never.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: it makes me feel alive. like this is what I'm born to do.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: well, I get a lot of "dude can it be done in a day",

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That should be thinking that a beat maker is a music producer. most people don't know that music production is by far different from just making a beat. As saturated as the beat making business has become, it's sad to see it being categorized as music production.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Do you want us to head to mars already, or do we cook up something that is still earth like?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: just be honest, true producers are always after finished good jobs than money.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: my laptop where I have my Logic Pro X and other plugins installed pair of monitor speakers soundcard midi keyboard headphone/mic

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started choir at a very tender age, started piano when I was about 10, played churches then live gigs at bars as an under age. became a studio boy in 2006 and that's how I went on from making beats to mixing and mastering and working with A list artists here in Nigeria.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: very flexible and easy. I believe less is more in music.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Alicia Keys, because I play piano too and a duet with her won't be a bad idea. I'm also a good baritone singer.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: be open to ideas, have an open ear to your client. that way you can bring your world to the world he is trying to create.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: afrobeat, reggeaton, pop, hip hop, and others not very regular.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: creativity. I have more than 15 years experience so it comes natural to me.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: life, yes I think that's my specialty. I one time added gun sound effects with bullet shell droppings to an intro words that was sent as voice note and it really gave a spark to the hardcore rap that followed in a song I made for an artist.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: everyday studio(home or office studio), I'm basically full-time musician so I hardly have other programs except live gigs. I play piano too.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a professional studio and a home studio. a good table, pair of monitor speakers, soundcard, rhode mic, midi keyboard, headphones, mic ball, etc.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Dua Lipa, Alicia keys, Elton John, queens band with late Freddie Mercury, etc

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: mixing and mastering, audio clean up/editing.
