Interview with CREATE-ISM Studio

  1. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  2. A: How much do you charge $300 per mix Can you make ME sound "like"? No, I don't do that, I am a MIXING ENGINEER

  3. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  4. A: I started as an artist in the early 90s but quickly realized I was not one for large crowds from either side of the stage. before that, I was one of the first people at the time who was using a computer to make music in my bedroom. My house became the place where a few friends and some people we knew would gather to have sessions, and collaborate on songs but mainly to record via the computer and burn a CD that day. I had no idea what being a real audio engineer meant at the time I just wanted to get sound into the computer and out onto CDs. Over time I realized I wanted to know how to make them sound better or more professional and that is when my mixing journey started. fast forward to C-19 I finally had time to sit down for a couple of years and just learn and work on the art and skill of mixing all day every day. I built my classroom "Studio" and treated it like school for the first 2yrs and since then I have been refining my templates, tools, and workflow to maximize my ability to utilize my skillsets to accomplish professional-level mixes on acoustic/ analog or digitally sampled material.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: I receive projects tracked out, .wav files (multitracks), and effects separate "when possible", ideally accompanied by a reference .wav file. edit track names, Arrange tracks by groups, load into DAW, do a preliminary listen to the raw and reference material for anything that sticks out, and take notes for the mixing session. Go thru my notes and assess the vibe/feel of the material, decide what the main and supporting elements of the material will be, choose complementary templates and tools, take a 15-minute ear adjustment break come back and start mixing.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both, I am currently all digital In The Box. For me and the tools I use, it fits the way I work better. But I do have a Yamaha mixer
