Interview with Rares Caraivan

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: A mix of both. Each has it's advantages. Digital; you're workflow is fast, but your sound is clean and could. Analog; you're slow but your sound is warm.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: Do you have a reference track? Because each person has an idea how his/she's sound should sound like.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: Well... I would say I never had chance to do something else. My parents were in the movie industry, so I grew up in a creative environment. I'm almost three decades in this industry.

  7. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  8. A: I gotta say it again Prince :-))) he was a musical genius. But also Missy Elliot, she was and is visionary.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Yup. DO. YOUR. THING. Don't let anybody tell you it has to sound like this and that. Be creative!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I would say Pop, but I call everything Pop, that became popular, so it can be straight Pop, or Hip Hop, EDM, House... :-)))

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: I guess, that I can adapt any genre or style. Being not only a musician but also a huge music fan since i was a kid.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Years of experience. I had my first record deal at the age of 15 and since then I'm in music business.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I would say, I don't have a typical work process. I'm a very analytic type of person, I listen to the clients wishes, react to it and give my best to realize it. For example, if a client has a reference sound, I give my best to be as close as possible to it...plus I'm really honest, if it's not possible with the quality you give me, I'm gonna tell you that, 'cause time is money.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Oh this is a hard question, 'cause there're too many...but I definitely say Prince ist on first place, Quincy Jones, Nina Simone, Bruno Mars, Missy Elliot...

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: compositions, songwriting, mixing and mastering are definitely on first place, followed by productions.
