Quality & Customer satisfaction is always the number one goal

Hey Thanks for being here!

I have 5 years of experience working as a freelance vocal mix & master engineer in Indianapolis, IN
I started in the mixing field many years ago staying up all night researching schools to attend to further my engineer knowledge. And learning from some of the great engineers. Such as frank pole, Drakes engineer Travis Harrington, etc

I soon fell in love with what could be done with audio engineering.
It opened my eyes to so much more in music. I now love all genres of music and have enjoyed mixing genres from Reggae Music, Pop, Electric, EDM, R&B, rap
I enjoy mixing for people that have unique tones and strong melodies the most.

I'm here on SoundBetter to connect and grow with great music people. I'd love to chat about your project.

Very professional engineer, honest feedback, quick responses, and always willing to accept changes and ideas for a mix. Never has an attitude, always willing to share wisdom and insight not only about the mixing, but for the artists performance as well. Would suggest to anyone looking for an engineer!

Interview with Mixed-By-Kello

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The song "Admit It" by Lol Kello. I engineered it, recorded it, and wrote the lyrics.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Im working on finding more clients at the moment.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: No

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital because I can work from anywhere.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I will assure everything is done to my best ability

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The diversity, especially when I hear artists having very unique styles and voices.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How do I have their adlibs playing at the same time as their lead vocal but making both of them clearly heard at the same time. And I respond with stereo shaping and panning.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I just turn the volume up and down for that "Can you make my vocals a little louder" response. There is usually a lot more then just turning the volume up.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Their preference for their mix, and is there a specific Artist that imitates that preference.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: understand the basic terms like dry stems, zip folders, and that some things in a recording are just not fixable in a mix. So record in a quiet room and not too close to the mic that will cause clipping.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A MacBook Pro with a m4 chip, dual scarlet interface (2 headphone & 2 mics), Presonus monitors, sony monitor headphones, and a NT1 microphone.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started from the absolute bottom with mixing. I started from mixing on bandlab on my phone not understanding how anything works. And now I am working with Pro DAWs and I am now able to hear exactly what was done and should be done to people's mixes just by listening to the song. I have been doing this for about 5 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Fast but very efficient.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Lil Baby because of his unique voice and cadence.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Never compress the high too much, especially on the master it will take away all the excitement.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Rap, Pop, and a lot of artists that resemble pllayboi carti and juice wrld.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Giving a clean clear mix, so really good equalization.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I clean the muddiness of a song and bring out certain good sounding frequencies with EQ and EFX. While also strategically placing tracks in specific stereo locations to give listeners the best experience while being able to hear everything clearly.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: An artist pays then sends more their dry stems via email in a zip folder. I load them into one of my templates depending on the genre. I assign each track to its correct mixer channel. Then I clean the mix first with surgical eq, gain staging, compression, then I continue to add efx/autotune. After the mix is complete I send the first mic version to the artist for confirmation and if they like it I then begin to master it. I make sure I expand the master dynamics etc with a plugin I received from frank pole. Then makes sure that the overall loudness is set for Spotify and Apple Music standards around 14-15 LUFS. Then I send to the artist via email.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a 2017 MacBook Pro and operate most of my mixing through FL Studio Signature edition. I have enough CPU to run many plugins like Antares autotune along with about 70+ more without over working my CPU.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Frank Pole

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Vocal mixing and mastering. Gain staging, Dynamic Eqing, EFX, Autotune, Stereo Shaping, Mastering, and much more
