Interview with Madd House Music Productions

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Not many...... Still looking for my masterpiece.

  3. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  4. A: How much will it cost? Quality doesn't have to cost big bucks but you get what you pay for. I never let anything leave my studio that might be tacky!

  5. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  6. A: That I am rich and I make a lot of money playing "Rockstar" and riding on a big bus. Its actually not that way at all. I am just out trying to make a living at what I love to do and spending as much time as I can at home with my family. This allows me to do that.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What is it your looking to do with your song? What kind of sound are you going for?

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Aggressively Dynamic. Its all about timing and soul!

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Country is my happy place...... However I am into a wide variety of music. You’d be surprised by my musical taste!

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: They do call me shuffles! I love to shuffle.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Life with live drum tracks that sound like your in the room with the kit.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: I am set up in a sound proof environment. I have a great sounding kit mic'd with awesome Mic's. I'm running Protools and Logic. I can track a Bass, Guitar and Drums at the same time with 8 different headphone mixes. I primarily focus on flying drum tracks to you.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Lonnie Wilson, Paul Liem

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: This is my career path. I have been involved in music business since conception, literally. My parents had a Southern Gospel band that traveled full time. I was in church sometimes 7 days a week. I rode a bus until my father taught me to drive when I was only 13 years old. I learned a lot about music playing with him and how a Drummer and Bass should gel. I am 4th generation musician. Every decision I have made in life has revolved around music and playing drums......

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Play less and sound better.

  25. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  26. A: Lee Kelly, Jason James, Chad Gantt, Tim Angsten

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: I will get you the quality tracks you deserve and I will make everything right no matter what it takes!

  29. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  30. A: Read the fine print. If somebody ask you to sign anything, study the scenario very closely and know every little detail before proceeding

  31. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  32. A: I am working with Matt Mason on his projects currently as Tour Manager/Drummer both live and studio applications.

  33. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  34. A: I prefer the good old analog sound because its much more full and not so fake sounding. Nothing like a great kit and good Mic's for that undeniable full drum kit sound. Any idiot can push a button, but can you actually play the part?

  35. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  36. A: I do what I want, when I want, as much as I want. I live to play everyday! I get to play drums or drive the bus, so life isn't half bad!!!

  37. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  38. A: Harmonica, Acoustic Guitar, Kick Drum, Snare Drum, iPad

  39. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  40. A: The artist who is undiscovered because we have a chance to bring something new and fresh to the table that the world has not yet heard.

  41. Q: What's your typical work process?

  42. A: I start with a simple idea and build a song. Basically a scratch vocal and acoustic track. Next, I make a chart before I track a simple drum part. Then track Bass and Guitar to get a strong melody. Then I go back in and write drum parts to fit song and put my own little twist to it.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I track drums for published writers and demo sessions for various publishing companies and record companies. I am a country player for the most part.
