Rafael Thomaz holds a PhD in Music from UNICAMP, State University of São Paulo, Brazil. He works as a guitarist, arranger, teacher and music producer. He has won prizes in national guitar competitions, performed as a concert performer in important concert series and as a soloist at the head of orchestras and chamber groups. With the group Algaravia he released two albums, "Algaravia" (2009) and "Música Brasileira de Concerto" (2016). In a duo with Guilherme Lamas, he performed the show “Sinal dos Tempos”, a tribute to the guitarist Garoto, and the album “Idas e Vindas” (2018). With singer Guga Costa, he recorded a reinterpretation of the classic 1969 album by Dorival Caymmi in "[a]dento - a tribute to Caymmi and his guitar" (2022). He has three authorial albums that demonstrate his wide and eclectic production, “Paisagens Interiores” (2015), “Still give time?” (2018) with Rafael Thomaz Septeto and "Invenções para Violão e Percussão" (2019). In 2017 he performed as a guest soloist at Gasteig in Munich, Germany. He directed, produced and composed the soundtrack for three seasons of the series Reflexões Contemporâneas for Instituto CPFL and aired on TV Cultura. He also acts actively as a teacher, music and audiovisual producer.
