I started in 2008 mixing FOH for my church, then when the pandemic hit in 2020 I began building broadcast mixes in Logic. In 2022 I expanded into live production for concerts and corporate events. I handle FOH, multitrack capture, and DAW post-mixing.
My love of music pulled me into audio back in 2008, and I’ve been mixing ever since. I started in church and now serve as Head Audio Engineer, which means I’ve spent years handling FOH, broadcast, DAW mixes, and light mastering. My focus is clean, musical, and intentional sound—whether it’s a live show, worship set, or a DAW session.
I’m honest and collaborative. If something isn’t working, I’ll tell you and help fix it. The goal is always the best version of your project. I take pride in my craft, and I show up with consistency, care, and a mindset to elevate the artists I work with.

Interview with Timothy Hino
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: A recent project I’m proud of was a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a newly renovated park in downtown Charleston. I was part of the setup team and served as the production project manager, coordinating with artist Edwin McCain, public dignitaries, and a state senator. I also ran the FOH mix for the event. It was a great experience that combined logistics, communication, and live mixing.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now I’m focused on solidifying a more permanent position with a production company doing live events, and continuing to build my roster of FOH/A2 work.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet. I’m still getting familiar with the platform, but I’m always open to connecting and recommending great talent as I find it.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: This is a tough one. Analog has a true, raw tone that’s hard to beat, but the reality is the pace of today’s work has changed. Digital lets you move faster, recall settings, and use emulations that get you close to that analog vibe. We don’t always have the time we had 15 years ago to set everything up. So for workflow and flexibility, my current answer is digital.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is clear communication, honest feedback, and a mix that serves the music. I’ll treat your project with the same care I give my own.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Music is healing, and I enjoy helping create an environment where people can feel that. Every show or session is different, and I like the challenge, the people, and the moments where it all comes together.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That audio is just “turning knobs.” There’s a lot of intention behind gain staging, EQ, dynamics, and how things translate to the listener.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I ask what the end goal is, what style they’re aiming for, what references they like, who the audience is, and any technical details I need to know (track count, input list, playback needs, deadlines, etc.).
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Hire someone who listens, communicates, and cares about the details.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I got my start in 2008 mixing for my church, which pushed me to learn FOH, A2, and production skills. In 2020 I added multitrack and DAW post-mixing for our broadcast mix at church, and in 2022 I started working concerts and corporate shows. Over 15 years in audio and still learning every day.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Live, dynamic, and vocal-focused. I want it to feel like the band is in front of you, even if you’re listening through headphones.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Dave Grohl. He’s one of the most authentic and versatile musicians out there, and his energy translates live in a way that would be incredible to mix.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Less is more. If you’re reaching for plugins to fix a problem, check the source first. The best mixes start with solid performances and clean captures.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly modern worship and live band music, with some pop and rock in concert and corporate settings.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is balancing clarity and musicality, especially with vocals. I’m good at making sure everything has space while still feeling cohesive and energetic.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Clarity, balance, and intent. I focus on making vocals sit naturally, instruments support each other, and the overall mix feel musical without being overworked. I’m also honest with feedback, if something isn’t serving the song, I’ll point it out and help improve it.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my work is church mixing and live production, filling FOH or A2 roles depending on the event. I also capture multitracks during shows and post-mix them in a DAW after the event for playback, content, or simple mastering.
