I love what I do. I´ve been recording drums and producing music almost all my life. I play with passion and love, but most importantly, I play for the song. I love music, and I take the time so that each recording gets exactly the sound and feeling it needs.

What can I say? Emmanuel is an institution in South America. He’s toured and recorded drums for some of my musical heroes. Fito Páez, Gustavo Cerati, just to name a few. Also I’ve had the pleasure of having him track on my own record and multiple productions I’ve done for various artists in the US. Besides his exquisite musical taste and outstanding groove, Emma is in it for the music and the pure love of creating music. I can’t recommend him enough. He is also a great tracking engineer and is able to get some unique tones, which make my work much easier during the mixing process.

Interview with Emmanuel Cauvet

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I have many projects that I have worked throughout the years that I am proud of. I was able to work with great artists such as Stanley Clarke, Shakira, Gustavo Cerati, Fito Paez, Dante Spinetta and many others. I am proud of all of my work with them. But, if I had to choose one, it would be to work with Gustavo Cerati in his album "Ahí Vamos".

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Several projects: recording, production and mixing, and live shows.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Yes. Federico Palmolella.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Analog all the way! History of music explains it why.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I will deliver.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I don´t see it as a job, I think it´s a way of living.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: What gear I use.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That drummers make "noise". We don´t make noise: we give rythm to life.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What do you want to achieve with this project?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be open to new possibilities.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: My drums, MacBook Pro, midi controller, Daw and one ribbon mic. Then, I would send for help and bring my other ribbon mic, my girlfriend, and stay living happily in the desert island!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I´ve been doing this for over 40 years. I started playing the drums with pillows in my bedroom, until I could afford my own drums. Since then, I have never stopped playing music. Once we understand and agree on the process, I begin the work and usually I send a wav. to the client in order to check if everything is as we discussed. Once the client approves, I send the stems.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a recording studio of my own, where I record my drums (DW, Ludwig and Slingerland) and other instruments.
