Interview with Neemias Teixeira
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Ludovido Einaudi, Charlie Puth, Bruno Mars, Jon Hopkins, Jordan Rudess, among others.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started playing the piano very young, around 6 years old. At around 13, I started playing at a local church for the services. After several years I started thinking of doing it for a living, so I joined a music school at the University of São Paulo, one of the most respected universities in Brazil. After that I participated in a few projects, made an european tour with the progressive rock band Maestrick. For a few years now, I've been doing freelance gigs which at this moment I've done over 6000 of them with over 2000 clients.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Mixing and mastering can't save a song that wasn't performed and/or tracked properly, it's much more of a polishing stage. The artist's performance is definitely the most important part of how good a song will sound after everything is done.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Mostly pop, rap, trap, gospel/worship, rock, country and folk
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Not settling on a job that doesn't sound good enough for my standards
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common types of work I get are piano and keyboards recording for clients' original songs (usually pop, rock, rap, country and variants) and mixing and mastering jobs. The most common sounds I use are: grand piano, rhodes, wurlitzer, hammond organ, strings ensemble and synth pads.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My band's Sigma Project album Reality Field, my debut solo EP Enlightenment and my second solo EP Laniakea, all instrumental progressive metal works. I had truly wonderful musicians contributing on them and I'm very proud they came out.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love playing the piano and creating keyboard parts for songs, and I also love to listen to a song after working on its post-production. Listening to a song's final form is very satisfying to me.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I always think of what I can add to a song that will make it better but always with the context in mind so I don't over do it.
