Interview with Everson Menezes
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Back in the days i worked for a portuguese version for the song "We believe" from Newsboys. It was interpreted by Leonardo Gonçalves, one of the greatest gospel singers at the time. That song was used as soundtrack for a movie so that was the first time I heard my guitar on the cinema speakers. That was like me talking to myself "Yes dude, you made it!".
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. I can spend more time testing ideas than plugin cables.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Give me the chance to surprise you.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Little kid from a small town at countryside but with big dreams. Music means everything for me so I've never done anything else in my life. Every cent that I made it was thru music. Based in São Paulo for 13 years and working with the best people around.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Simple but elegant
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Any artist that is interested in put good music into the world.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Everbody have something unique to share. we need to find it inside the song and the artist.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I've been work with gospel artists most of the time. But that covers a lot of genres actually. Like worship music, rock, pop, R&B, folk... And I love this search for adapting my play with the right approach to the song.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Work with no ego. All that matters is the song itself.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I really want to deliver a experience where the producer and artist will receive the song even greater than it came to me. Sometimes It's something very sutil but still brings that fresh feeling to the song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually, I need 3 week days to return the song. I like to listen carefully to the composition and spend some time trying to discover what kind of elements this song needs. In order to be precise and find what suits better for the song's vibe.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is very simple but every piece of it is high quality. My interface is one Antilope zen go, wich have great conversor, clock and dynamic range. Most of my electric guitar tone comes from the Kemper profiler and many guitars. My acoustic tone comes from SE microfones and many acoustic guitars as well.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Dan Huff, Michael Landau, Steve Lukather, Michael Thompson, Paul Jackson Jr, Dominic Miller, Tom Bukovac and many others.
