Clayton Lovett

Producer and Mixing Engineer

Clayton Lovett on SoundBetter

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer for artists on a budget.

I understand the work and emotion that goes into music making. I'm still one of those kids that rock out in their bedroom on their cheap instrument they got for Christmas. Your song is your baby. I don't want to charge exorbitant amounts of money on a project that you barely had the time to finish to begin with. I love music. I love working on music. I would love to work on YOUR music.

Interview with Clayton Lovett

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: The fact that all it is is manipulating frequency to produce soundwaves that effect human emotion. Mindblowing.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: Nothing is ever fixed in the mix. Be confident about what you have.

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Love your work with everything you got plus some. If the right amount of time and energy was put into it, it'll always be a great song. It's our job to help convince everyone else.

  7. Q: How would you describe your style?

  8. A: A severe lack of style. It is what it is and that's all it ever has to be.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Turn the knobs like a madman. Eventually it'll sound alright.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: Usually rock, punk, metal and stuff like that. I do take influence from other genres such as hip hop though.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: I'm a bit of a perfectionist. It can be annoying, but worth it in the end.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: If all goes well, nothing at all. You paint the picture, I'll frame it. You have to put it on the wall yourself though.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: A very humble bedroom studio. No flashing lights and absolutely no bells or whistles allowed.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: Devin Townsend. The guy does it all himself.
