Julien Saquing

R&B+Singer/Songwriter Producer

Julien Saquing on SoundBetter

Songwriter with all the technical knowledge.

For the independent artist who wants more than an engineer, a fellow artist to help them explore new sonic horizons, to protect the vision of the song, and to take care of the entire process from writing to mixing.

I started as a songwriter and artist who couldn't find the right producer, so I became him! Now I get to walk with artists through the creative process, helping them discover their unique voice.

Because of my artist background, I specialize in writing and vocal producing. I love to coach vocalists, helping them sound like the best version of themselves.

Interview with Julien Saquing

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working with a crop of extremely talented singers that are new to the scene!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Analog on the way in when recording audio & out during mastering for character & warmth. Digital when producing & mixing for the flexibility and limitless options.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: I promise, you will love what your song turns into and how it sounds. Some songs come naturally, and some take some wrestling, but I am down to go on the journey with you to tell your story!

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love to hear and develop people's stories through the process of songwriting and expressing that song by wrapping it up in music. At my core, I am a storyteller that uses many different mediums to craft a beautiful and meaningful story, and I would love to help you do so.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Come with your strongest song ideas! I also love to have a reference playlist for each song/project so I can hear your sonic vision.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: A decent interface, mic, and my acoustic guitar.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: My style can vary, but is grounded in concise, impactful songwriting. There is a sense of longing in all of my songs, whether it be a ballad, or a dance song, a dissonance pointing to the eternal. I also have a flare of global sonics in my sound as well, all centered around a strong vocal sound.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: It would be my dream to write with Chris Martin of Coldplay!

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: The initial demo doesn't have to sound at all like the final product! Sometimes it's fun to just ride the wave, not be overly self-critical, and see what comes out of making room for creativity (and for looking silly haha.) Every idea is worth trying!

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: R&B, Rock, Folk, Singer-Songwriter

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: Writing, Arranging, Vocal Producing

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: I bring a songwriter's perspective to every song I touch. I am firstly a songwriter, with a passion for every little song idea to blossom into all it's meant to be.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: I love to jump into a writing session to get a feel for you and your writing style! I usually make a scratch track after that session to put an arrangement down on paper for us to start to work off of! If remote, we can then start sending the song back and forth as we develop ideas! If local, I love to work with the artist in the room as much as possible! This has accelerated the process for me, getting immediate reactions to sounds! Once we finish producing, I then need a few days to mix the song, and then we can send off to mastering!

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: Gear List: - Interface: Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen + Extender - Preamp: WA273-EQ - Microphones: WA-8000, SM7B, RE320 - Guitars: Strat, Tele, Acoustics, Nylon - Basses: P-Bass, Stingray - Full Guitar & Bass effects - Fully weighted, 88-key Keyboard Controller

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I love to take artists through the whole process of writing, to producing, to mixing! Since I produce from a songwriter's perspective, I can provide a wholistic experience through every step. I mostly work with singers who are looking for a fellow writer & musician to help them realize the full potential of their songs!
