Singer, multi-instrumentalist

I'm a perfect pitch, multi-instrumentalist lead singer of a critically acclaimed band known mixing genres seamlessly. I'm a self-taught musician, having played guitar for 30 years. My current passion is playing and exploring jazz piano: particularly modal jazz and quartal harmony. My beats are heavily influenced by DJ Premiere and Dilla.

Music is how I experience the world and how I make a living while I'm in it. I have perfect relative pitch and learned how to play everything by ear. I'm a native guitarist and I play the piano, synths, bass, drums, percussion, cello, sequencing and beat programming. I'm probably most known however, for my voice. I'm the lead singer of a band called Algiers. We've released four studio albums, as well as having collaborated and/or toured with some of the biggest names in the industry. Stylistically, my influences are varied, as is my style of playing. My biggest influences: McCoy Tyner, Nina Simone, DJ Premiere, Jonny Greenwood, The Beatles, Outkast, Gil Evans and David Axlerod...or really Hip-Hop, Post-punk, Jazz and Soul music as a whole. I've also started exploring modern classical, electronic music as well as composition and arrangement. Vocally, my biggest influences are Levi Stubbs, James Cleveland, Marvin Gaye, D'angelo and Michael Jackson. In the first song of the below mp3s, "Can the Sub_bass Speak?" I played and/or programmed all the "sampled" music in the background.
