It was a real pleasure working with Katie. It took some time to align and figure out where to take the song, but she had a lot of patience and invested time into understanding what I wanted from the track. Katie's voice is clear and with a great tone. The end result and quality of the recording was very good.

Katie did an excellent job singing on my Taylor Swift/Katy Perry type demo. She added harmonies and background vocals that fit the song perfectly. She even had the vocal stems available for me to download the very next day. Awesome job Katie!

Katie is a breeze to work with. She is professional, understands her craft, is great at communicating and honest. Her fantastic tone and phrasing ability added a far greater dynamic than originally envisaged. She is now our defacto choice for a female County/America vocalist. Recommending her is a no-brainer.

I've worked with Katie a few times over the last few months and each time she has produced really high quality work for me. I can't rate her highly enough.
Easy to communicate with, Katie listens to what you are trying to achieve and brings a creative and professional approach to delivering your final vision. Simply awesome to work with. - check_circleVerified
Katie came in totally prepared, with a fantastic attitude and shocked me with her incredible talent and artistic take on my tune. In a world of pitch correction and auto tuning, her musical sensibility and vocal power was amazing. I can't stop listening to her performance!!!

Katie was a pleasure to work with! She took direction very well, while still adding her own interpretation and arrangement to the song. When I asked for something to be re-done, she delivered the corrections quickly and went beyond my expectations. On top of all this, her voice is amazing--definitely the total package! Highly recommended!

Working with Kate was unbelievable, extremely professional, with a fantastic voice. She delivered the tracks within one week as promised and absolutely killed it (in the best way possible). Would definitely work with Kate again! 5 Stars all around.
Interview with Katie McGhie
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing professionally since I was a child, but didn't pursue a music career until 2009. I was headed to Broadway, but changed gears when songwriting fell in my lap. I've since released two studio albums, been fortunate enough to have radio play and tour the US. I'm currently stepping further into the sync world.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My personal vocal style is clean when it needs to be and gritty when I want it to be. My personal music is folk and country so that is where my voice is naturally comfortable. But as I mentioned, I have a background in Musical Theatre so I am extremely flexible in the studio vocally.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Past: Freddie Mercury. He's gold in every way possible. From songwriting to presence. Current: Brandi Carlile. Because everything.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Vocals up front. Always. And if you can mix that blend then you're a genius in my book.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: My work spans from Americana/Folk to Musical Theatre. You name it. I'll sing it.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: As a performer with a background in Musical Theatre, I consider myself a vocal chameleon. I match my client's sound while still bringing my own mix to the piece.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work out of a local, full service studio owned by a Grammy award winning engineer and work with some of the best engineers in LA. Studio access also available in Utah and New York.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Brandi Carlile is someone I look up to immensely. Her writing and vocals blow me away.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I am commonly brought in as a session singer and vocal arranger.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently recording a second album with my duo, writing as always, and producing the demos for the new musical I co-composed that recently closed off Broadway.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I will always deliver and it will be ahead of schedule.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I get to do what I love. Music is everything in this world.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: What kind of music do you sing? (I still find this to be funny.) My answer: What's the song?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I walk into a room, sing, and I'm done for the day. The reality: the work never ends.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What is the project and what's it for? What are your goals for the track and/or project? What can I contribute vocally?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Talk to me. The more I know about the project, the better I can assess what I can do for you. (Meaning don't just send me a request and expect me to accept it. I like to know details.)
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Does the island have an outlet? Let's pretend it does. 1. iPhone (Voice Memos. Can't live without them.) 2. Mac 3. Mic 4. Guitar 5. Keyboard
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I've taken on the nickname "One Take McGhie".
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My process is pretty typical. I review the track, take notes on what I hear and feel I can add, then work on producing that. I like to be as prepared as possible when walking into the studio.

I'm working this weekend on a new musical with music by Graham Russell of Air Supply. I've been working as the music supervisor for the show and we've had a great time. Sunday will be our fifth day in the studio with the cast. I've spent each day arranging the vocals and tracking with their talented cast of singers.

I spent this past weekend in Salt Lake City singing with The Banned Sigmund Freud at their album release party. Graham and I (aka my duo, Of Eden) also did our own set Saturday night to a standing-room-only crowd. All proceeds from the event went towards the Girls On The Run organization. It was a great night!
