PIANO & SYNTH:
I played alongside industry greats, including Victor Wooten, Jeff Coffin or Rob Lewis (Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, Anderson Paak) and have recorded globally in various settings for 15 years. As a pianist, my expertise spans across Classical, Jazz, and Pop genres. I've also developed a deep understanding of Sound Design and I'm extremely familiar with a variety of synthesizers: Prophet,Juno,Moog,etc.

Interview with PAB EMSON

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: Upon receiving the job, I listen to any provided references. I dedicate a full session to listening to the rough mix, followed by a second session during which I take notes. Then, I begin working to deliver the best possible results for the job I was hired for.

  3. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  4. A: People ask me a lot of Mastering and Edit/VocalTuning work. Mixing and Piano are the 2 other common requests I receive.

  5. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  6. A: I received a call one day to Produce Mix and Master a full Club-Set of original music for a VIP Night-Club in South of France. I had 24 hours to do the whole thing, the show was a success, that project was intense but unforgettable.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: I am lucky to be travelling between America and Europe regularly to work on projects with Artists and Creators. I have access to amazing studios facilities wherever I go to do my freelance work on the side which is a lifestyle I always wanted.

  9. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  10. A: I saw that Manny Marroquin is on the platform. I learned a lot from his mixes. If you can get a chance to have him mix your track, you have to take it!

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: I grew up with Digital, I love the endless possibilities of Digital. I work with analog occasionally !

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: When I work on your music, I am fully involved to deliver the best work I can.

  15. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  16. A: Working with music 24/7

  17. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  18. A: Can you make this song "Hit" harder? -Yes

  19. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  20. A: Mixing, Mastering, and Piano are not three different things: we move frequencies to make them sound awesome together.

  21. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  22. A: My 3 questions are most of the time the following (in this order hehe): What do you need me to do for you? Can you send me an Audio Reference? Can you send me a Rough Mix?

  23. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  24. A: When you're looking for help to realize your vision, don't hesitate to reach out. Music is a collaborative process. Ask your musician friends for advice, listen to other artists, and if there's an area where you need help to bring your vision to life, hire a professional. This professional could be a provider on Sound Better, like me.

  25. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  26. A: Honestly in 2023: - MacBook Pro (M2) - UAD Interface - Focals Trio 6 - Nord Stage 4 - SM-7B

  27. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  28. A: I began playing the piano at 6 and later added singing, composing, and music production to my skill set. I started doing by myself the whole production chain from writing to mastering when I was 12 years old. That helped me to learn and grow during the years. Later on, I became the Artist Opener for KUNGS (#1 on the Charts in Europe) at the Monte-Carlo Sporting "Salle des Étoiles" during the Monte-Carlo Summer Festival (The Jacksons, Lady Gaga, Pharrell Williams etc.) Then, I went to Berklee College of Music when I was 18, and started working with TOP Industry people as soon as I got in. After graduation I kept playing shows as an Artist & Pianist, working both in America and Europe as a Producer, Mixing & Mastering Engineer, and this is what I keep doing everyday.

  30. A: Open minded & Detail Oriented.

  32. A: I wish I could work with Quincy Jones, the greatest.

  33. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  34. A: Don't boost, CUT.

  35. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  36. A: I can work with any genres. Usually Pop, Dance, Club, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and Latin.

  38. A: I make tracks competitive on the Market.

  41. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  42. A: I am lucky to work in various studios that have slightly different gear but my main studio has a UAD interface, MAC M2, Yamaha & Focals Monitoring System, with a lot of Roland Synthesizers.

  44. A: Right now: Quincy Jones, Charlie Puth, Illangelo and Dave Kutch.
