Matty G has produced 3 songs for me, showing professionalism and efficiency all while getting the tracks on a professional standard for release. What made me approach Matty G in the first place was hearing his original work which portrayed a very unique and fresh style when it comes to production and composition. I highly encourage anyone to try Matty as he is not limited to niche genres and has the ability to produce and write across multiple genres. Would higly recommend

The most professional work i’ve done as a producer/engineer was in collaboration with Matthew (Matty G). He always keeps the workflow smooth and has a strong directional sense as to where the production should go and is highly efficient in getting the vision to reality.

Highly recommended contacting him for any work you need done on your mixes or musical works.

Matty G is a producer I first came into contact with during my time at the Sound Engineering academy we were attending. Since then I've further developed my artistic avenues with production help from Matty G. This is a producer I trust with my work in collaboration and some whose expertise I highly rate. Throughout the years Matty G's sound engineering and production has proved to comply with industry standards whilst also bringing new innovation to the landscape of modern production.

Interview with Matty G

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: The first album I worked on that went No. 1 in Mozambique (the artist's native country) holds a special place in my heart, because it was a big step for me and a milestone I'll always remember. I was the executive producer and I mixed and mastered it.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Right now I'm in the final stages of three albums (late in the mixing process) as well as putting together two EP's which are currently in the production process.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I prefer a Hybrid combination, I mostly work with digital equipment, but I believe there is an unattainable warmth about analog gear.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: A professional standard of work and customer service. As well as the promise to do everything in my power to deliver a product that they are happy and satisfied with.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Creation, and bringing other artist's creations to life.

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: A guitar, a microphone, a laptop, an audio interface and headphones, my usual vacation set-up.

  13. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  14. A: I've been making and playing music since I was 13. I started with guitar and worked my way to doing production. I started studying music in 2017 and started working with other artist's later that year. I graduated in 2020 and now I'm a full-time producer and audio engineer, I also teach others production and engineering.

  15. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  16. A: I would love to work with Frank Oceon, Ry X, Nick Murphy, The Weeknd, Young Thug, Drake, Dua Lipa, I would have loved to work with the late, great Miles Davis, The list goes on.

  17. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  18. A: Keep learning, no one knows everything. Also... don't over-compress.

  19. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  20. A: I work predominantly on Pop, Hip Hop, Afrobeat and R&B. However I have a lot of experience with many other genres, like rock, metal, singer-songwriter, latin, country, house, jazz and alternative. I am open to anything.

  21. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  22. A: My engineering is my strongest skillset, a number of artists choose to work only with me, for the mixing and mastering needs.

  23. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  24. A: Creativity, texture, direction (if needed), the goal of bringing the artist's intentions of the song to life as well as professional mixing and mastering standards.

  25. Q: What's your typical work process?

  26. A: Depending on what is required my work process varies. For producing, I usually gather information from the artist on their dream of the final product and then begin the creative process using that direction, sometimes I am the one taking the initiative in the creation process, it differs from artist to artist. For mixing and mastering, the process begins with cleaning and tidying up the audio and then enhancing it, finalising the mastering process with the goal of clarity and power in mind. I then send it to the artist, if they have any revisions they would like to make, that is done until the product is final.

  27. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  28. A: I work on a Mac Book Pro, using Logic Pro X. I have a large library of third party plugins. I use an Apollo Twin X audio interface and KRK Rockit 6 for monitoring. I also have a wide array of instruments, namely: several acoustic/electric guitars, keyboards (including the Roli Seaboard Rise 49), piano, bass guitar, drums, alto saxophone, harmonicas, condenser microphones and a didgeridoo.

  29. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  30. A: I am heavily inspired by several producers and a few engineers, my top spots would be reserved for Noah '40' Shebib, Timberland, Mike Dean, MixedbyAli and Rick Rubin.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: Typically I am commissioned to mix and master an artist's song or project, as well as produce instrumental compositions for artists. I have also served as executive producer for four albums. It is also common that I am requested to fix and attenuate audio.
