Raffaele Salapete on SoundBetter

Hi, I’m an italian musician and I will record fantastic guitar tracks for your songs, don’t hesitate to write me!

I am a musician with about 15 years of studio and live experience. I have been fortunate to collaborate with various national and international artists and to have an experience that I carry with me in any work situation I have to face .
I specialise in rock/pop guitar with an attitude towards jazz/fusion. In addition to the electric guitar environment, I also prefer classical and acoustic guitar as fundamental instruments at the service of music. Basically I manage my workflow through a DAW, I would kindly ask you, if you write to me, to send me either the Logic project or the separate tracks to be able to work.

WORKFLOW
I record electric guitar tracks through a real amp with Royer Labs r-121 in pre Universal Audio solo 610, Lunchbox with API 512c, 550A, 525, Kemper Head, Quad Cortex
I record acoustic or classical guitar with DPA 4090, Neumann TLM 102
I use Logic Pro x like a daw and I use a lot of plugins for "improve", there where needed, sound quality.
I have a past behind about a hundred transcriptions, solos, rhythm parts, polyphonic writing for classical or acoustic guitar.

Guitars: Fender Stratocaster Custom, Fender Stratocaster American Standard, Epiphone Les Paul Custom, Suhr Modern, Classical archtop guitar, Maton Tommy Emmanuel, Godic Grand Concert, Guitalele

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Interview with Raffaele Salapete

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: One of the projects I've worked on is called “A Day After Hurricane” I'm particularly proud because I curated part of the arrangements and all the guitars on the album

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on my album and future projects for live tour

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: I prefer to record in analogue because I feel the sound much more 'real' than digital. The harmonic-rich sound of the analogue is beautiful. Digital I often use it for live situations, where I need more practicality and immediacy in getting a nice sound in the shortest possible time. I also use digital in the studio if I want to achieve something in particular

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise to respect all your needs and requests so that the song can succeed in the best way

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love the creative part, a magnificent process that never leads to repeating itself and always experiencing new things

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: One of the questions that customers often ask me is, 'How would you imagine the guitars in this song?' I usually answer that I need my creative process, to listen and throw down ideas

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: Do you have any references that you would like me to hear that come close to your request? Would you like a guitar arrangement in this song? Do you have the tracks I need to import into my DAW to be able to work? Would you just like the electric guitar in this song? Would you like an implementation of an acoustic or classical guitar?

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: What I recommend is to have clear ideas about the request you want to make. The clearer the ideas are, the easier the achievement of the musical goal becomes!

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: Guitar, computer, audio interface, microphone, spare strings !

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I have been playing and studying the guitar for about 15 years. I started as a self-taught and then continued my studies both privately and academically. I was lucky enough to collaborate with several national and international artists, to play in orchestra, to read scores at first sight. All these experiences have enriched my musical background

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My style definitely comes from several ratings. I definitely take a cue from the guitar of Andy Timmons, Wes Montgomery, Greg Howe, Neil Rodger, Eric Johnson , Tommy Emmanuel, Segovia, Ralph Towner etc. I have a very vast musical background. I studied Jazz guitar, modern rock guitar, classical and acoustic guitar. I also take influences from other musical instruments

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: I would like to work with several national and international artists such as Bruno Mars, Bryan Ferry, Cesare Cremonini, Steven Wilson and so on and so on. I would love to be a turnist guitarist, I love having the idea that my guitar can serve the music of the artists I collaborate with

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: I usually work on predominantly Pop/Rock music. I have influences in jazz fusion and I often happen to do similar jobs. I often work for independent music artists and record many things on acoustic and classical guitar

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: I really like to create guitar solos in style for the various tracks. I love creating guitar arrangements that intertwine with each other to create an amazing sound

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: In a song I certainly bring my artistic side given not only by the academic study but also by the various musical work experiences of which I was part. The experience that evolves into creativity I think is one of my strengths

  31. Q: What's your typical work process?

  32. A: My typical work process is to download the tracks that are sent to me, understand the mood that the artist who wrote to me requires and start working and experimenting to get certain sounds. After that I start to throw down ideas and figure out if everything works perfectly with the artist's request

  33. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  34. A: My studio is configured in a large and linear environment. I have the space I need to be able to record in maximum quiet and be inspired. My workflow starts with my Mac Pro entering an RME UCX audio interface. I have various equipment both analogue and digital for professional audio signal shooting

  35. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  36. A: The instruments that inspire me the most are above all percussive instruments. I believe that rhythm is the basis of creativity and music. I try to bring these rhythmic ideas back also on the guitar as a compositional stimulus

  37. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  38. A: I record professional guitars, I make guitar arrangements in a song from a demo, I deal with audio mixes, I create atmospheric sounds for official videos as a sound designer
