Interview with Thomas Jones JNS

Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Its a simple setup, Logic, in the box only, but my ears are the most important part of it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I have many different styles but mainly its either Hip-Hop, RnB, or 80´s Synth music. I love a good challenge.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Understanding genres, understanding context, i try do creative choice in good taste.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to make it sound as good as possible, getting the artists point across comes first, i know this from producing and writing songs for 20 years.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: First listen to the song, the vocals, the transitions, the rhythmic aspects, the low end. I try to establish quickly what can be improved either by controlling frequencies or dynamics. The most important thing is to not overdo it, and not fix whats isnt broken.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: The people that i´m currently working with is inspiring me the most. Mixing engineers that inspire me: Mixed by Ali, Noah "40" Shebib, Eddie Sancho, Fabian Marasciullo.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Usually figuring out how to make the vocal performance sit well in the mix, cleaning up bass and making drums hit.
