I’m Luke, a seasoned mixing engineer and live sound specialist with 18+ years of experience.
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—I started playing piano at age 3 and drums at age 5, which laid the foundation for my deep understanding of rhythm, melody, and musicality.
My career began in 2007 in Auckland, New Zealand, where I primarily worked in live sound, collaborating with artists across various genres. In 2019, I moved to Sydney to continue my journey in live sound while shifting my focus toward mixing records.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working as a FOH engineer with a range of talented artists, including Stan Walker, Vince Harder, Erakah, The Rocket Summer, LZ7, Aaradhna, Jessica Mauboy, New Empire, and many more.
In the studio, I’ve mixed projects for artists such as Kada Miller, Roy-Al, Ben Neal, Harvey Ward and Shara Rose, bringing a live sound engineer’s attention to detail and energy to recorded tracks.
I’ve also spent time in the studio as an engineer and producer, conducting vocal sessions, tracking instrumentation, and working with both bands and solo artists.
If you’re looking for a mixing engineer who can bring depth, clarity, and excitement to your music, let’s collaborate and take your songs to the next level!

Endorse Luke BantonIt has been years of a journey for me looking for the right mixing engineer. After working with well over 10 different engineers that couldn't deliver me what I was looking for, my search ended when I started working with Luke. It's now been years since and Luke has mixed all the projects I work on.
Not only is Luke technically sound in bringing clarity and balance to the song, but he also manages to keep the 'life' in the track, which is an artists dream.
Luke is my go-to mix engineer for any project I'm producing. Every track sounds better after he's done, plain and simple 🙏🏼
Interview with Luke Banton
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Manny Marroquin!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital emulations of analogue gear. Best of both worlds!
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—I started playing piano at age 3 and drums at age 5. I've been working as an audio engineer for 18+ years.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When recording live instrumentation, get it right at the source first. Great tone starts with the player, the instrument, and the room.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: As both a mixer and a musician, I naturally approach a mix with a deep sensitivity to musicality, groove, and feel—understanding how each element contributes to song. This dual perspective allows me to bridge the technical and creative, making decisions that serve both the sonic quality and the soul of the song.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Macbook pro, interface, custom moulded IEM's and my ilok!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work on all kinds of music, but I enjoy mixing tracks with live instruments the most.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I like to bring depth and definition to a song. People often tell me they can hear every instrument clearly defined and well placed in the mix—something I aim for in every project. It’s about making space for each element to breathe while still feeling cohesive.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I listen to most genres of music. Jacob colliers creativity really inspires me. In terms of mixing engineers, I enjoy work done by Manny Marroquin, Serban Ghenea, Spike Stent and Andrew Scheps, just to name a few.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Primarily mixing, occasionally mastering. I also co-produce some projects.
