Interview with Agus Oettel
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Just focus on the project's goal, that would draw a map that will tell you in which direction you should go to.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Lately I'm working a lot with Metal bands, but I really like a lot of different genres and I'm really eager to work with projects that involve more elements.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill it comes down to understanding my client's wishes. That makes my mixing process so much easier and more effective.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Even though if I'm being hired only as a Mixing Engineer, being a producer it makes me offer tools to artists in order to help them to get their material to its maximum potential.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: As a mixer, I focus in the client's goal, for me the most important aspect of a mix is to materialize the artist's vision. So I consider my mixes start with communication and that leads naturally to the next stage, references and mixes.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My setup in this last few months has been going smaller and smaller. I mainly now I mix in the box, because I'm living travelling a lot, travelling with my touring band, and also, moving from Argentina to Germany, it makes it difficult to move a whole studio setup but I work in a professional studio to finish my works.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Musicians that inspire me I must say there are lots of them. Geddy Lee, James Jamerson, Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Guthrie Govan, David Gilmour, Tony Levin, Steve Hackett, among others. And music production inspirations, I could mention Steven Wilson, Alan Parsons, Jens Bogren, Rick Rubin, Bob Ezrin, George Martin, Chris-Lord Alge and the magnificent Quincy Jones.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I work mainly as a Mixing Engineer, Producer and Session Musician (Bass and Guitar). Within these categories I cover different music genres, such as, Metal, Hard Rock, Prog/Classic Rock, Pop/Rock, Pop, Funk.
