Interview with Timi Sullinger
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to show up fully for every project — with heart, professionalism, and attention to detail. I’ll always communicate clearly, meet deadlines, and do my best to deliver vocals and songwriting that feel honest, inspired, and aligned with your vision. I care deeply about the work and the people I collaborate with.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love knowing that something new is being created, that I get to be part of that collaborative process and that I'm helping someones vision and dream become a reality. I love the challenge of finding the right emotion, words, and melodies to make something feel real.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: I think the biggest misconception is that singing or writing a song is quick and effortless. In reality, there’s a lot of intention, emotional connection, and technical skill behind every vocal or lyric I deliver.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: When I start working with a new client, I like to ask a few questions to really understand what they’re looking for. And make sure that we are always on the same page, this can also help me make suggestions that might add to their vision. Some questions might be: What’s the vibe or emotion you want the song to capture? Do you already have lyrics or melody, or are you starting from scratch? Do you need just the lead vocal, or harmonies and backgrounds too? What key and tempo is the song in? Is it in English, Spanish, or a mix of both? What’s your deadline or ideal turnaround? This are only a few, I like to be thorough when it comes to understanding the clients needs to fulfill the project with the best results.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice would be to take the time to really think about the vision you want for your project and communicate it clearly. The more details you can provide, like the mood, references, and any specific ideas you have, the better I can bring your concept to life. Don’t be afraid to give feedback and ask questions along the way. Most importantly, choose someone who you feel you can connect with creatively and professionally, because that connection will make the process smoother and the result more authentic and satisfying.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: I gravitate toward soulful pop and emotional ballads because I love songs that make you feel something. My voice has this warm, intimate vibe, for me, it’s always about telling a story and trying to convey that emotion and that warmth.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One tip I’d give is to always focus on the emotion of the track first. It’s easy to get caught up in technical details like EQ and effects, but if the song doesn’t have the right emotional foundation, it won’t connect with listeners. Whether it's the vocal delivery or the arrangement, make sure the soul of the song comes through before anything else
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I mainly work on pop and ballads. While my foundation is in pop, I’ve also worked on Latin music and soulful ballads.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I’d say my strongest skill is my ability to bring emotion and authenticity to every vocal and lyric I create. Whether it's singing or songwriting, I focus on connecting deeply with the song and making sure that comes through.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Once we agree on the direction, I start by getting clear on the vibe and structure of the song, whether that means writing lyrics, building a topline, or laying down vocals. I´ll send a rough take or guide vocal first to make sure we’re on the same page or I have to modify something, then move on to final recordings. You'll receive high-quality stems, and I include one free revision to fine-tune anything if needed.
