I Will Help You Create Your Next Big Pop Song. You need Emotionally Resonant Songwriting, Dynamic Instrumentation that pulses in agreement with the feeling of your song, and a Powerful Mix that drives the feeling home. These things must come together to bring any song to life, and that is exactly what we will achieve working together.
Hi! I am Joseph Okey, professionally known as 24Vojo.
I'm a singer, songwriter, producer and mixing and mastering engineer from Lagos, Nigeria. I've gained over 4 years of studio experience working on music projects that span across a wide range of genres - including Pop, Hip-Hop, Afrobeats, Rock, Soul, RnB & Neo-Soul.
Having created months and months of horribly lukewarm music when I first started out back in 2021, I quickly learned what the missing link was - THE FEELING.
I came to understand that any song that would connect with the audience emotionally must be created from within that same emotional state. I made that change, created my first emotionally charged song titled "Riding" (listen in my audio sample) and never looked back!
I've worked on tons of music in the following 3 years (personal and commercial) since then and I've kept learning and discovering the secrets that make the great songs just feel different - feel right.
It is with this confidence that I say I will help bring your projects to life, and get them sounding like perfect candidates to compete at the highest levels.

Interview with Joseph Okey
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not really.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My EP out now on all platforms. I wrote, produced, performed, mixed and mastered it personally and that is why I am most proud of that body of work.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I just wrapped up a project writing and producing for a fast rising Nigerian pop sensation actually. I can't say too much yet, but I'm really looking forward to that release.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital, because I don't have a lot of analog experience/access (yet!).
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise that I will give you my best. With the right inputs, we will create an evergreen, authentic song.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: My job.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: They usually want to know if I can get them to sound like (insert pop star/famous artist). My answer is always that we will create a song nobody's ever heard before.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Everything you've heard is probably true ;)
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I majorly want to know how they want the listener to feel while the listen to the song. That feeling drives the whole process.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Follow the music. Credentials and reputation may tell you about a provider's experience, but the sound never lies.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Laptop, Headphones, Monitors, Microphone, Soundcard.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been Producing music for 5 years now, but I started writing songs in 2016, back in high school (that's about 9 years). I have about 2 years of Mixing and Mastering Experience. I started out writing songs just for fun, like covers and parodies. Then I realized I had a gift for this and began writing originals. It was Hip-hop then, I grew up on A LOT of Drake. I would hop studios hoping to get recording time, but that didn't work out too well so I decided to learn to record myself. Tinkering around I taught myself how to produce as well (thanks to YouTube University) and the rest is history.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Deep and Punchy. But I can also be soft when I need to be. It's really not about me when I'm working with clients, It's about the song.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would like to work with Billie Eilish, just because of how incredible she is at all the fundamentals. Writing, Premise, Vocal performance, Melodies, Harmonies, Emotions. She's got IT!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Sound selection/Getting the right performance or take > Mixing. Everytime. Early in my production career I had very little sound engineering background, so I would try my best to get the song sounding how it did in my head, and I would fail every time. Then I discovered the magic of mixing. As a bit of a blessing and a curse too, because I fell into the belief that the sounds I picked to build the song, or the integrity of the performance did not matter too much as I could fix any problems with a bit of EQ, Compression, Reverb, and mixing magic. WRONG. In the ideal situation, the primary objective going into the mix is nothing more than to enhance the relationships between all the elements that make up the song (which, hopefully, should already sound good and work well together). Bottom line: Putting effort into selecting the right sounds to build your song with, and painstakingly getting the best takes and performances is CRUCIAL to getting a good final product.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Pop music. Afrobeats is a close second, but most of my personal music projects are pop songs. This is the same with clients.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is my ability to translate feelings into melodies, lyrics, and, ultimately, a complete song or project. This means that I am flexible enough to work outside genre restrictions. It's about the song to me.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I would say my unique experiences. My worldview, my perspective, all the things that make me me. However I also have an uncanny ability to create emotions utilizing the fundamentals.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Differs. It's very project based.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: Microphone: Rode NT2A Monitors: Rokit KRK 5 Headphones: Audio Technica M30x Soundcard: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 DAWs: Logic Pro x FL Studio Reaper Mixing & Mastering Plug-ins: Waves Fab Filter Izotope Slate Digital Valhalla Dada Life
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Hans Zimmer. He's a Genius, I don't have to explain that. Finneas and Billie Eilish. Their chemistry and artistry is awe inspiring. Excellence. Sia is an incredible songwriter, and Mike Dean is an engineer and producer I love.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have mostly written songs and produced backing tracks for my clients, but I also get frequent mixing and mastering requests.
