I'm the Heisenberg of this platform —an expert newcomer with a superior product.
Hi, I'm Joel, and I specialise in rapping, ghostwriting, songwriting and production. I've spent over 20 years crafting my own music to a professional standard, and now I'm offering my skills as a tailor-made service.
The demo track on this profile was written, produced, and performed by me. So if you like what you hear, and you’re unsure whether to hire me or a more established competitor, consider this:
I have a lot more to prove than he does. And your 5-star review means more to me than it ever will to him. So get in touch while that’s still true... and let me cook you up a classic.

Interview with Joel Harvey
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m working on my Hiphop album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Conor Dalton for Mixing and Mastering.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Paint the picture. The better you clarify your goals - the easier my job becomes. Don’t worry about hurting my feelings, be direct with your feedback, and I’ll work at it until it’s perfect.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: MacBook Pro, Maschine MK3, Komplete Kontrol Keyboard, Sennheiser HD600’s
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Sophisticated and soulful hiphop
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I’d love to work with Anderson .Paak because he’s the greatest.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: The chord progression is the foundation of the song. It has to sound good enough on its own, without anything else added. If you nail the chord progression - everything else will fall into place.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hiphop, RnB, Soul, Drum & Bass, Jungle, House.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Rapping, Songwriting & Production.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I have excellent rhythmic and melodic intuition. I’m also highly articulate, so my lyrics are always interesting.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I tend to write my lyrics first while walking through the woods. Once I’ve wrote the lyrics, I build the basic beat around them, and record the vocals. After that, I go to town on the production, the arrangement, the automation and FX.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I make my beats on the Native Instruments Maschine MK3 & Komplete Kontrol Keyboard, along with Logic Pro on the Mac Mini. I’m a student at Point Blank Music School in London, so I have 24/7 access to world class recording facilities.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I have 20 years experience in making my own music, but I have only just begun to offer my skills on the market.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I guarantee satisfaction. If you're not happy, neither am I.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It doesn't feel like a job. I’ve been doing it for free for 20 years, it’s fuelled by passion, not money.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: 1. Give me an example of a song you love, and why? 2. Give me an example of a song you hate, and why? 3. Why are you doing this? 4. What’s your vision?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been making my own music for over 20 years.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: My favourite producers are Dr. Dre, Pharrell, J Dilla, Hi Tek, Just Blaze, No ID, Adrian Younge, Mark Ronson, El Michels Affair, Chris Mazuera, Kanye West, Rodney Jerkins, Madlib, Timbaland, Pete Rock, Th3ory Hazit, K Fresh, The Kount and Alchemist.
