Interview with Aline J.
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: The Murmurs of broken hours, a song I wrote and released recently. It talks about the beautiful yet sometimes complicated relationship between the artist and the creation. The song resonated well with the public and several radio stations were happy to include it on airplay.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm composing my next song for the Aline J. project and I'm currently learning and recording the complete repertoire for a metal project, where I'll be taking over the role of lead singer.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I deliver quality vocals and will make sure you’re fully satisfied with the final results. I work with professionalism, creativity and I bring the right emotion to every track.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Creating atmospheres, singing, diving into a new project and learning through collaborations.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: I like to get clear on the vision they have: What emotion are you going for? Do you have reference artists, singers or songs? Do you have a specific vocal melody idea I should follow or are you looking for full vocal comping?
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: A mic, my soundcard, a laptop, my headphones and my phone!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: A bit raw, high in intensity, powerful and emotional.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Emotion, expression, versatility and I quickly understand what's expected of me.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Fragility, intensity and depth.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: After briefing with the client, I listen to the song a few times to get a feel for it, then I start singing the different parts and warm up at the same time. I then switch to my DAW, add the click and the track and start recording leads, dubs, harmonies and background vocals. While doing so, I check volumes, expression and vocal intensity, I redo takes if needed and edit tracks by cutting out unnecessary parts. Finally, I export each vocal track individually in wav format and create a secure drive folder to which I upload the files. I send the folder link to the client, pending review.
