Interview with Amornay
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of is my single ‘Trust Nobody.’ I wrote and performed the vocals, and it was a deeply personal song about vulnerability and learning to set boundaries. Being involved in both the songwriting and vocal delivery allowed me to bring authenticity and emotion to the track. The response from listeners who connected with the message made it really meaningful to me. It’s a project where I felt I truly expressed myself and grew as an artist.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Right now, I’m focused on writing and recording new music for my upcoming album. I’m also collaborating with other artists on songwriting and exploring new creative projects in modeling and content creation. It’s an exciting time of growth and experimentation for me.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I haven’t had the chance to connect with anyone on SoundBetter so far. But I’m open to discovering great collaborators and building a network of trusted professionals to recommend in the future.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I appreciate both analog and digital because each has its unique strengths. Analog brings warmth, character, and a natural feel that’s hard to replicate, especially in vocals and instruments. Digital, on the other hand, offers precision, flexibility, and convenience, making editing and experimenting easier. I usually record digitally for clarity and workflow, but I love to incorporate analog elements when I want to add depth and texture to a track.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise to my clients is to bring my full heart and professionalism to every project. I commit to understanding your vision deeply, communicating clearly, and delivering work that’s authentic, high-quality, and emotionally impactful. I’m dedicated to collaborating closely and making sure the final product truly reflects what you want and need
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most about my job is the ability to connect with people through emotion—whether it’s through music, modeling, or performance. Being able to tell stories that resonate and move others is incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy the creative freedom to express myself and help others bring their visions to life. Every project is a chance to grow and make something meaningful
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Customers often ask about my creative process, turnaround times, and how involved they can be. For example, they want to know: ‘How do you write lyrics?’ ‘How long will it take to get the final track?’ or ‘Can I give input during recording?’ I always explain that I start by understanding their vision and mood, then write and record with their feedback in mind. I’m flexible about collaboration and keep communication open throughout, so the final result feels like a true partnership.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: One of the biggest misconceptions about what I do is that it’s easy or just about showing up and performing. People don’t always see how much work, emotion, and craft goes into songwriting, recording, modeling, or acting. There’s a lot of vulnerability and technical skill behind the scenes—constant learning, refining, and pushing yourself to be authentic and professional every time. It’s not just talent; it’s dedication and heart.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What mood or emotion do you want the music or content to convey? • Are there any specific references or styles you want to capture? • What’s the intended audience or platform for this project? • Do you have any deadlines or budget considerations I should know about? • How involved do you want to be in the creative process?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: My advice for anyone looking to hire a provider like me is to be clear about your vision and open to collaboration. It’s important to communicate your goals, mood, and style upfront so we can create something that truly fits your needs. Also, trust the process and the creative input—I bring my experience and emotion to the table to help elevate your project. Good chemistry and respect go a long way in making the work flow smoothly and authentically.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My Scarlett 3rd gen interface — because it’s reliable and portable for recording anywhere. 2. My AKG 440 mic — it’s my go-to for capturing vocals with clarity. 3. A laptop with Logic and Pro Tools installed — to write, produce, and record music on the go. 4. A good pair of headphones — for monitoring and mixing in any environment. 5. A portable audio interface or mic preamp — just in case I need extra flexibility or quality when recording outside the studio.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started modeling and acting at 14, and after high school, I moved to the city to pursue my career seriously. Around 19, I began taking singing lessons and working in the studio, which led me into songwriting and recording. So I’ve been in the industry for over a decade now, growing and evolving across music, modeling, and acting. Each step has taught me more about my craft and how to connect with audiences in different ways.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a blend of soulful R&B with a modern alternative edge. It’s emotional, raw, and intimate, but also polished and smooth. I focus on storytelling through both lyrics and vocals, creating music that moves people emotionally and physically.”
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with someone like H.E.R. because she blends deep emotion with incredible musicianship and vulnerability. Her music feels honest and timeless, and I admire how she crafts stories that connect on a personal level. Collaborating with an artist like her would challenge me to dig deeper into my own expression and grow creatively.”
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: One tip I always keep in mind is to leave space in the mix don’t overcrowd the track. Sometimes less is more. Giving vocals or instruments room to breathe helps the emotion come through clearer and makes the whole song feel more dynamic and alive.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on R&B and alternative pop because those genres allow me to blend soulful emotion with modern sounds. I love crafting songs that feel intimate and raw but also have a vibe you can move to. I also like to experiment with elements of soul and electronic music to keep things fresh and expressive.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is emotional delivery whether through vocals, lyrics, or performance. I know how to tap into a feeling and translate it in a way that resonates with people. I can bring softness, power, sensuality, or pain, depending on what the moment calls for. That ability to connect and move people is what sets me apart.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring emotion, honesty, and vibe. Whether I’m writing or recording, I tap into the feeling behind the song and deliver it in a way that’s real and memorable. I know how to make a song feel intimate, raw, or sensual—and I pay close attention to tone, delivery, and energy. My voice carries emotion, and my lyrics tell the story. I don’t just perform a song I live in it.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My typical work process starts with understanding the vision whether it’s mine or the client’s. For music, I usually begin by listening to the beat or concept and then writing lyrics and melodies that bring the emotion to life. Once the song is written, I record vocals at home using Logic or Pro Tools, then send the stems to my engineer or finish the session in-studio. For modeling or content work, I prep by studying the brand, setting the tone, and making sure my energy matches the message they want to send. I’m big on intention, so whatever the project is, I approach it with focus, creativity, and a commitment to quality.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home setup is clean and reliable. I use a 3rd generation Scarlett interface and an AKG 440 mic, and I record in Logic and Pro Tools. I usually track my vocals at home, then send them to my engineer for mixing or I’ll head to the studio to finish the session in person. It gives me flexibility while still keeping everything professional and high quality.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: im inspired by artists like Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, and Sade women who knew how to blend emotion with rhythm and bring a timeless presence to their music. I also admire producers and creatives who prioritize feeling over formula, like Timbaland, Noah ‘40’ Shebib, and Pharrell. I’m drawn to those who create space in the music—who let the emotion breathe. Whether it’s the warmth of a vocal, the subtlety of a beat, or the intimacy of a lyric, I’m inspired by those who make people feel something real.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do is songwriting and vocal performance. Artists and producers come to me when they need emotionally-driven lyrics and vocals that feel raw, real, and polished. I also do modeling and content creation, where I help brands express energy and story through visuals. At the core, my work is about helping people connect through emotion—whether it’s through music, visuals, or presence.
