Gael Gallegos on SoundBetter

Producer, session guitarist & engineer specialized in organic music — rock, metal, ska, blues, pop, regional & beyond.

I’m Gael Gallegos — certified audio engineer, music producer, session guitarist, and founder of Novassenz Studio™, a boutique hybrid recording studio based in Mexico City.

I specialize in organic music with real instruments, combining musical sensitivity with technical precision. From metal and rock, to ska, blues, regional Mexican and cinematic music, I work closely with artists to produce, record, mix and polish music that feels real, powerful and emotionally grounded.

At Novassenz Studio™, I work with a full hybrid setup: SSL PureDrive preamps, Warm Audio optical & FET compressors, ADAM A8H monitors, a fully patchable analog chain, and boutique guitars captured with high-end microphones and analog gear.

Services:
• Mixing & hybrid mastering (analog gear + digital precision)
• Guitar and bass session recordings (clean, crunch, acoustic, leads)
• Vocal production (recording, tuning, editing, tone sculpting)
• Full song production & musical arrangements
• Re-amping and tonal enhancement

Whether you’re a band, solo artist or label, if your music is driven by authentic instruments and emotional depth, and you want a pro who lives and breathes this sound — I’ve got you.

Let’s build something timeless.

Interview with Gael Gallegos

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Producing Emeralt’s debut album has been one of a kind. Being my own project, I had full creative freedom to experiment without limits. I turned it into a sonic lab where everything was deliberately oversized and exaggerated — the structures, arrangements, dynamics. The result is a bold, professional, and emotionally raw album. Coming soon.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Mainly on the production of Emeralt’s debut album — my band, where I’m also the vocalist, guitarist, and producer. The album will be available soon. I’m also developing Violet Velvet, a more intimate and emotional personal project. Beyond my personal projects, I actively work with other artists as a producer, engineer, and session musician from my professional studio, Novassenz Studio™.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I haven’t collaborated with anyone here yet that I could recommend based on direct experience. But if I do find someone I fully trust, I won’t hesitate to mention them.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I use both. The warmth of analog and the precision of digital work together in my hybrid setup. What matters is not the gear but what each song truly needs to sound its best. The hybrid approach gives me the best of both worlds.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To treat every song as if it were mine. I never deliver anything half-done or soulless. I don’t aim for “just okay,” I aim for “wow.” My commitment is to leave a mark on every production, no matter the project size.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: That spark when a song comes to life and gives you goosebumps. I love it when the technical and emotional sides align. When the track not only sounds great but actually feels like something. That’s where the magic happens.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: “Do you do everything?” Not everything, but almost. I produce, record, compose, mix, master, and sometimes play instruments or arrange. Every project has its own path, but the goal is always the same: to sound professional, emotional, and full of personality.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: Thinking that mixing, mastering, or production can fix everything. But more than that, the biggest issue in this industry is the lack of respect for the chain of roles — and for the people assigned to each one. Every stage — songwriting, performance, recording, mixing, mastering — has unique value. When any step is skipped or a role is dismissed, the result suffers. Music gets better when each specialist is allowed to shine.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: – What do you want to feel when hearing the final version? – What songs or artists inspire this project? – How open are you to creative or technical suggestions? – Where will this track end up? (Streaming, film, pitching, etc.)

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Don’t just listen to the sound — listen to the mindset. Hire someone who understands your vision and commits to it. A good collaborator doesn’t just deliver audio, they deliver communication, clarity, and respect.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: 1. Shure SM7B 2. MacBook Pro 3. Focusrite Clarett 4. Beyerdynamic headphones 5. Fender American Standard Strat

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I’ve been working professionally in the music industry for over 5 years. During this time, I’ve grown as a musician, producer, and engineer, developing both technical and artistic skills that I bring to every project. I currently work out of Novassenz Studio™, where I combine analog and digital tools to deliver results with real character and quality.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Raw, honest, and emotional. I always aim for music that says something real — no unnecessary polish, just solid, detailed production that supports the message. I care more about emotional impact than mathematical perfection.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: Dua Lipa and Trivium, because their productions are top-tier examples in today’s industry—modern, tight, and well-executed. I’d also love to work with Epica, since they’re my favorite band and I’m passionate about their orchestral/symphonic metal approach.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Know your environment so well that you can break the rules with purpose. It’s not about fancy gear or endless plugins—your judgment is everything. If you know what you’re looking for, any tool can become powerful.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Mainly rock, metal, ska, blues, pop, and regional Mexican music, though I also work on voiceover, soundtracks, and alternative fusion projects. I specialize in organic music with real dynamics, character, and presence.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My critical ear and ability to shape solid productions from concept to execution. I have a global understanding of audio: I know when to lead creatively and when to let the music breathe. My experience as both a producer and guitarist allows me to connect with the project from the inside out.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Technical precision, artistic identity, and high-level criteria. I can take a rough demo and elevate it into a professional production with depth, power, and clarity. Whether mixing, mastering, or recording, I focus on translating the heart of the project into a competitive and expressive sound.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I begin by understanding the artist’s vision. From there, I build the production or mix based on the project’s emotional and technical direction. Depending on the need, I can record instruments from scratch, create arrangements, re-amp, or develop a hybrid mix. I always aim for a sound that’s powerful, clear, and filled with identity.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I work from Novassenz Studio™, a professional space with a floating room design and full acoustic treatment. I use hardware from Solid State Logic, Warm Audio, Focusrite, and ADAM Audio, operating a hybrid system optimized for recording, mixing, and mastering. On the digital side, I work with plugins from Universal Audio, Waves, Slate Digital, IK Multimedia, and more. I’m Avid Pro Tools certified, ensuring seamless sessions and industry-standard results.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I’m inspired by producers with a deep and holistic vision of sound like Rick Rubin, Quincy Jones, Bob Rock, Andy Sneap, Jens Bogren, and iconic musicians like Eric Clapton, Mikael Åkerfeldt, Opeth, and Kiko Loureiro. I value the ability to blend technical mastery with emotional depth and pursue true sonic identity.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Professional production, mixing, and mastering with a hybrid analog/digital approach. I also record and arrange electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and bass. Additionally, I offer vocal sessions, re-amping, and full sound direction for complete projects.
