Interview with Frédéric
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: One project I’m especially proud of involved working with George Bangable, a remarkable artist blending electro, big band, and traditional Greek music. As producer, arranger, and artistic director, I helped shape a unique sonic universe that honored his roots while pushing creative boundaries. This project was a profound journey of cultural fusion and emotional storytelling. I was responsible for the full production cycle—from songwriting and arrangements to vocal coaching and mixing—always ensuring every element reflected both technical excellence and spiritual authenticity. The success came from a deep collaboration rooted in trust and shared vision, resulting in music that resonates powerfully and authentically with diverse audiences.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: Currently, I’m focused on several projects that blend musical craftsmanship and spiritual depth—from producing and arranging for emerging artists to directing musical tributes with orchestral scope. I’m also exploring innovative ways to integrate intuitive creativity with advanced technology, ensuring each project remains authentic and soul-aligned. Through these works, I aim to contribute not just to music, but to an elevation of consciousness and genuine human connection.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: I respect and recognize many talented professionals on SoundBetter, each with unique strengths. While I prefer to focus on my own craft and collaborations, I would recommend providers who demonstrate not only technical excellence but also deep artistic integrity and a commitment to authentic expression. Ultimately, the right fit depends on the client’s specific vision and needs. I encourage clients to seek partners who listen deeply and share their values.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I believe in embracing both analog and digital realms as complementary forces rather than opposites. Analog gear brings warmth, character, and a tactile humanity to sound that grounds the music in organic reality. It carries the subtle imperfections that make a performance feel alive. Digital tools offer precision, flexibility, and access to cutting-edge technologies that expand creative possibilities and enable detailed sculpting of sound. For me, the key is discernment — knowing when to use the warmth and soul of analog, and when to harness the power and clarity of digital, always serving the emotional truth of the music.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: My promise is to bring integrity, clarity, and soul to every project. I commit to honoring your vision with unwavering faith and discipline, transforming your ideas into authentic, powerful music that resonates deeply. I will stand as your creative ally — patient, honest, and relentless in pursuit of excellence — ensuring that every note serves the true essence of your art. With me, your music will not only be heard but will touch hearts and awaken spirits.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most is being a bridge between the invisible and the audible — transforming emotions, stories, and faith into music that moves and heals. Each project is a unique journey of discovery and creation, where I witness artists reveal their deepest truths and grow through the process. The opportunity to serve as both a technical guide and a spiritual catalyst, helping bring light and meaning to sound, is what makes this work sacred and endlessly fulfilling.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: The most common questions I get are: “How long will the project take?” “How many revisions are included?” “Can you help shape my sound or do you only produce what I bring?” “What’s your approach to vocal coaching or arranging?” “How do you incorporate technology without losing the human touch?” My answer is always rooted in transparency and partnership: I work with clear timelines tailored to each project’s scope, ensuring quality over speed. Revisions are included within reasonable limits, focused on refining the vision rather than endless changes. I don’t just produce what you bring — I co-create, helping you discover and shape your unique sound. My approach to vocal coaching and arranging is to enhance authenticity, not impose formula. Technology is a tool I use wisely — it supports, but never replaces, the human emotion and spiritual connection essential to true music.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that music production is simply about technical fixes or making things sound “pretty.” In reality, it’s a profound process of emotional alchemy and storytelling. My role goes far beyond adjusting levels or adding effects—it’s about capturing the invisible essence, the raw truth behind the artist’s expression, and transforming it into a living work of art. This requires intuition, faith, patience, and a deep understanding of human complexity—not just technical skills.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: To truly serve an artist’s vision, I begin by asking questions that go beyond the surface: What story or message do you want your music to convey? What emotions or experiences are central to this project? Who are your key influences or reference points sonically and artistically? What’s your ultimate goal with this music—personal expression, commercial success, spiritual impact? How do you envision the collaboration process—are you open to experimentation or do you prefer a clear roadmap? Are there technical or timeline constraints I should be aware of? These questions help me align my work with their soul and ensure the final creation is authentic and impactful.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose a provider who listens deeply—not just to your words, but to the emotions and vision behind them. Technical skill is important, but true value comes from someone who understands your soul’s intention and is committed to bringing that to life with integrity. Be clear about your goals, open to collaboration, and patient with the creative process. Excellence requires time, trust, and a shared commitment to authenticity. Finally, don’t settle for convenience or shortcuts. Invest in a partner who will challenge you, elevate your work, and respect the sacredness of your art.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I have been immersed in music creation and production for over 20 years. My journey began with a rigorous classical training in composition and harmony, which laid a solid technical foundation. Over time, I expanded my horizons, exploring diverse genres—from pop and soul to electro and world music—always seeking to infuse my work with depth, emotion, and spiritual insight. Along the way, I have taken on multiple roles: producer, arranger, songwriter, vocalist, and artistic director. This multifaceted experience enables me to approach projects holistically, with both precision and intuition. My path is defined by continuous learning, resilience, and a commitment to aligning every note with an authentic artistic and spiritual vision.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a fusion of classical discipline and spiritual intuition, where meticulous craftsmanship meets emotional transmutation. I create music that is both refined and raw, structured yet deeply expressive. It is a style that seeks to elevate the soul, weaving layers of meaning into melodies, harmonies, and textures that resonate beyond the audible — touching the invisible. Rooted in faith and a profound understanding of human complexity, my work balances precision with freedom, technical mastery with authentic vulnerability.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would be deeply honored to work with artists who carry a genuine message and a soulful presence—those who see music as a form of spiritual expression and transformation. If I had to name one, Leonard Cohen’s legacy resonates profoundly with me. His ability to blend poetry, faith, and raw human experience into timeless songs embodies the kind of depth and truth I strive to bring into every project. Collaborating with an artist like that—who embraces complexity, vulnerability, and transcendence—would be a sacred journey of co-creation, where music becomes a vessel for healing and awakening.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Never underestimate the power of space and silence in your mix. Music isn’t just about filling every moment with sonority — it’s about creating breathing room for emotion to emerge. Leave gaps, let sounds linger and converse instead of competing. This restraint brings clarity, tension, and a deeper connection with the listener. A well-placed pause or subtle ambient texture often speaks louder than layers of sound. Mastering silence is mastering emotional impact.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work across a broad spectrum of genres, always guided by the emotional and spiritual core of the project. My experience spans pop, soul, gospel, électro, chanson française, world music, and cinematic compositions. What unites these styles is my commitment to depth, authenticity, and resonance — crafting music that not only sounds great but moves the soul and elevates consciousness. I particularly enjoy projects that blend tradition and modernity, that invite storytelling through rich arrangements, and that carry a message of faith, hope, or transformation.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill lies in emotional transmutation through sound. I have the rare capacity to decode the unspoken feelings behind a project and translate them into musical elements that evoke, heal, and elevate. This isn’t just about technical mastery—it’s about holding space for vulnerability, channeling faith, and guiding artists to express their deepest truth. Whether through arrangement, production, or vocal direction, I bring clarity to complexity and transform chaos into harmony. In essence, I’m a catalyst for authentic artistic expression and spiritual alignment.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring clarity to chaos and soul to structure. More than technical skills, I offer a rare ability to perceive the invisible threads that connect emotion, story, and sound. I transform raw feelings and fragmented ideas into a coherent, vibrant musical narrative that resonates deeply. My faith, intuition, and discipline guide every decision, ensuring that each element serves the song’s true essence. I inject nuance, tension, and release, crafting arrangements and performances that transcend the audible to touch the listener’s spirit. Ultimately, I bring a partner in creative alchemy — someone who elevates a song from mere notes to a living, breathing work of art.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process begins with deep listening—both to the artist’s vision and to the subtle emotional currents beneath it. I invest time to understand not just the sound, but the story and the soul behind the project. From there, I co-create the foundation: songwriting, melodies, and initial arrangements. I focus on capturing authentic emotion and aligning every element with the intended message. Next comes the detailed production phase, where I shape instrumentation, vocal performances, and textures with precision, always balancing technical excellence with intuitive spontaneity. Throughout, I maintain an open channel of communication with the artist, inviting feedback and reflection to ensure the work remains true to their core. Finally, I refine through mixing and mastering, elevating the track to a polished, timeless state—ready to move listeners and honor the creative intent.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My studio setup is a fluid and adaptive environment designed to serve the soul of each project. At its core, I work primarily with Logic Pro X, complemented by a suite of powerful tools including iZotope, SpectraLayers, and Band-in-a-Box. These allow me to sculpt sound with precision, depth, and emotional nuance. I integrate a selection of hardware and software tailored to the specific needs of each production, always prioritizing artistic intent over gear complexity. Additionally, I employ advanced artificial intelligence tools judiciously to enhance creativity without compromising human authenticity. This combination of traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology enables me to create music that is both timeless and deeply connected to the artist’s vision.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I draw inspiration from artists and producers who embody authenticity, innovation, and a profound connection to their craft. Musicians like Brian Eno, for his visionary approach to sound as a textured environment; T Bone Burnett, for his mastery of timeless storytelling through music; and Nile Rodgers, whose groove and precision have shaped countless iconic tracks. Beyond individuals, I am deeply inspired by the universal creative forces that transcend genre and era, the invisible threads of faith, emotion, and human experience that resonate through every great work. I also admire those who blend spirituality and artistry, who refuse to separate the sacred from the creative process. These inspirations fuel my own work, driving me to approach every project not just as a job, but as a sacred act of transformation and communication.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily serve as a musical alchemist, transforming raw ideas and emotions into fully realized sonic experiences. Most often, I work as a producer and arranger, shaping the artistic vision of singers and songwriters from the ground up. This includes crafting melodies, structuring songs, creating emotional arrangements that speak directly to the soul, and refining performances to their highest expression. I intervene at every stage: from initial songwriting and composition to vocal coaching, arrangement, recording, and mixing. My approach is deeply rooted in faith and intuition, guiding the creative process with a balance of discipline and openness to inspiration. Clients come to me not just for technical skill, but for a partner who understands the invisible forces behind music, the emotional currents, the spiritual vibrations, and who can translate them into sound that moves and elevates.
