Interview with Kenneth Goodrich

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: There are so many! But I’ll start with a recent one: “Feels Like Home to Me” — my first reggae release. I produced, wrote, recorded, mixed, and mastered the entire track, and the trap beat switch at the end is one of my favorite moments creatively. Moving forward, I’m especially proud of my upcoming album BORN WINNER (Deluxe) — not just because of the music, but the vision behind it. I wrote, produced, and mixed the project myself. The song “GROW” is already out, and it’s one of my favorite records I’ve ever made. I’m also producing for an artist named DAMAG3 — I’ve got two records on her upcoming project BLIND, including the single “GOD iMAG3.” I had a heavy influence on that project’s sound and direction, and I’m excited for the world to hear it. Honestly, the list goes on — I take pride in everything I create.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m wrapping up my BORN WINNER (Deluxe) album dropping August 21st, along with a major single featuring WESTSIDE BOOGIE. I’m also producing and mixing for a few rising indie artists, building out my tour strategy, and curating high-impact content to expand the Kenneth Goodrich brand. Everything I’m doing right now is focused on power, ownership, and pushing creative boundaries — both for myself and the artists I work with.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I’m still getting familiar with the SoundBetter community, but I’m always on the lookout for top-tier collaborators to recommend. If you’re looking for a specific service — like a live session musician, or different vocal producers — let me know and I’ll point you in the right direction or help oversee the process.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both — I use whatever serves the song best. Analog brings warmth, grit, and vibe. Digital brings precision, speed, and flexibility. I love combining the soul of analog with the sharpness of digital to get the best of both worlds.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to treat your music like it’s my own — with passion, precision, and power. Whether I’m producing, mixing, or writing, I’m not here to just check a box — I’m here to help you create something unforgettable. I’ll bring you clarity, confidence, and a competitive edge. You’re not just getting a service — you’re getting someone who cares if your song wins.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I get to wake up and live my purpose every day. I get to share my passion with the world and I don't know anything more cool than that.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: How fast can you deliver? A: I move with purpose. Standard turnaround is 3–5 days depending on the scope, but if you need it faster, I offer rush delivery. I don’t sacrifice quality — you’re getting industry-standard work every time. Q: Can you make it sound like [insert big artist]? A: Absolutely — I study the greats. But I also push for something fresh and powerful that’s *yours.* My goal is to elevate your sound, not copy someone else's blueprint. Q: Do you offer revisions? A: Yes — I want you to be fully satisfied. All packages come with at least one round of revisions. I’m collaborative and open to notes, especially when the goal is excellence. Q: Can I send you a rough demo or voice memo to start with? A: 100%. I can build from scratch or polish what you’ve got. Just be clear about your vision and I’ll take it from there. Q: Do you do bundles or custom deals for larger projects? A: Definitely. If you’re working on an EP, album, or need multiple services (mixing + mastering + production), I can create a tailored offer that makes sense for your budget and goals.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I just press buttons or slap on a preset and call it done. Great music takes intention — every lyric, layer, and sonic choice is there to serve a purpose and connect emotionally. Mixing Engineer answer: That mixing is just about making things louder. In reality, it’s about balance, clarity, and making sure every element supports the emotion of the song. It’s both technical and deeply creative. Mastering Engineer answer: That mastering can “fix” a bad mix. Mastering is the final polish — not a magic wand. A strong mix is what allows a great master to shine. Producer answer: That producing is just about making a beat. A real producer helps shape the whole creative vision — from arrangement and sound design to vocal performance and storytelling. Topline Writer/Vocalist answer: That it's just about singing something catchy. A strong topline needs to tell a story, fit the rhythm and energy of the track, and stay stuck in your head — all without feeling forced.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1. What is your vision for this project? (References or vibe you're aiming for?) 2. What’s your deadline or timeline for delivery? 3. What is the intended use? (Album, single, sync, demo, etc.) 4. Do you have a rough mix or demo I can hear before we begin? 5. What file formats and resolution do you need for final delivery? 6. Are there any artists, songs, or genres you want this to sound like? 7. Will there be any revisions or alternate versions required (e.g. instrumental, clean)? 8. How many tracks or stems are you providing? 9. Do you have any specific vocal production/mixing/mastering preferences? 10. Is there anything else I should know to make sure you're 100% happy with the result?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: I give my 200% at every project I pursue. I am the hardest worker you can hire and due to my sincere mastery of songwriting, production, recording, mixing and mastering, there will never be a missing piece to any song. I am here to make any project FINISHED and Radio-Ready.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Does it have an outlet anywhere? lol. Microphone, Laptop, Monitors, Interface, Keyboard.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I have been doing everything for the past 11 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Lyrics: Clever, playful, introspective, master of storytelling and unforgettable hooks. Production: 21 Savage Metro Boomin type trap, blended with The Alchemist sample flipping, Kaytranada electronic influence, and Curren$y laid-back tonality. Engineering: A blend of hip-hop's simplistic roots and modern day pop sound. Been compared mostly to Mixed by Ali.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I want to work with Kendrick Lamar because I feel like sonically, we have a lot in common.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: EASY. Know all your shortcuts and use saturation plugins to give that analog crisp sound.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Hip-Hop is my specialty.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Songwriting. I have been writing songs before anything else. Inspired from the likes of early Eminem, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Linkin Park to name a few.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: The best component that Kenneth Goodrich brings to any song is PERSONALITY. You will never hear a boring record from Kenneth Goodrich. Whether it's the witty lyrics, explosive vocal production or the polished mix, every millisecond of the song is filled with special 'moments' that keep the listener engaged.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I run everything through my M2 Macbook Pro. With 10+ years of daily experience, my workflow is flawless. This is my full-time job so I spend every day in the studio producing, songwriting, recording, mixing and mastering the latest records.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I have a professional recording studio at Kenny Beats "The Cave" location in Burbank, CA. IG: @clever_empire for photos. Although proficient in Pro Tools, I now run all of my production, recording and engineering sessions through Ableton. I have all the waves plugins, numerous saturation plugins, most of the UAD plugins, an 1176 LN Amplifier, 2-610 UAD Tube Amplifier, AKG C-214 Mic, Yamaha HS7s, Yamaha NS-10s, AKG K553 MKII Recording Headphones, Sennheiser HD 58X Mixing Headphones, Roland RD-2000 Keyboard, Retro Casio Synth, Various percussion instruments, Maschine Studio and various Native Instrument plugins, and an Apollo Twin X interface.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Being Kenneth Goodrich--look my name up online, I specialize in hip-hop but I am extremely diverse and tend to lean toward genre bending. Inspired and mostly compared to artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, the creator, and Mac Miller to name a few.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Recording, Mixing/Mastering, Production and Songwriting in that order. I am top tier in each of the these categories.
