Interview with OxThe3rd
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: "Worst Enemy" with Amanda Rogers was the first time I showed people just how powerful my words and ear for arrangements are, especially for vocal direction. All while still being a rapper. Plus I was 18 at the time, imagine what I can do now at 27!
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: An EP to push out before the summer's over, including a song for an independent film that's to be released towards the end of the year!
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Definitely Breana Marin!
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital simply just because that's all I've ever known since working in music, I'm not against analog though!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That they will feel cared for and considered when crafting a song and WILL be satisfied in the end.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: To be able to connect with any and everyone through words and music no matter the person and make them feel seen
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Just basic questions mostly such as "Can you write a hook?" Which of course I can! Lol or "What lyric do you believe should fit in a certain part of a track?" And of course that's not a question to answer right away.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Not necessarily a misconception but just the unexpetancy of me knowing how to write songs for people lol
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: 1. What's the expected turnaround? 2. How do you like your lyrics?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Please read the terms of service including everything you can about me through my profile so that way you know exactly what you want and need.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: All my headphones/earbuds, my DAC, my microphone and interface, and laptop
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been creating music and writing since I was 17, writing for peers such as rappers and singers on the come up. I've been through trial and tribulation finding the right people to work and build community with as I continue working to prepare my art to be shown to the world at a quality professional level!
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Coming off of everything I've discussed so far, I'd say feeling before execution.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: FKA twigs! She's one of my favorite artists ever in the genre of experimental R&B from performance to visuals and above all else, SONGWRITING. That is what I call a DREAM come true!
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Learn to listen more than ever to those that came before you and inspired you. Invest in quality headphones and listen for as much detail as possible in the music that inspires YOU!
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-Hop and Pop, but R&B is a sound I don't dabble in as much as I like to due to the amount of fun I have with the genre.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Directing the artist in a direction where their performance feels organic, even when doing something they never thought to do.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring description, simplicity, passion and comfort to songs.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: My work process varies on the song and music I am working with, because every song invokes an emotion, and for every emotion comes a different approach to songwriting. But if I had to be specific to get the brain flowing, it's simply humming and mumbling words, finding that sweet spot for the melody till once it's there that's when I fill in the blanks!
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from my home with a Sterling Audio ST51 Microphone while utilizing a M-Audio M-Track MKII
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Frank Ocean, Timbaland, Adele, The Weeknd, and Especially Pharrell!
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Primarily songwriting, I want to be able to I start out with sitting down with my clients to help them understand their vision. Especially if they themselves are not sure, that's where I come in!
