Mike Eminger on SoundBetter

Pro session guitarist delivering Nashville-style rhythm parts, melodic pop fills, and funk-inspired grooves. I focus on song-serving guitar tracks that blend perfectly into your mix, recorded with high-end gear and fast turnaround – ready to elevate your production with clean, tight, and production-ready tones.

I’m a pro session guitarist specializing in Nashville-style rhythm parts, melodic pop fills, and funk-inspired grooves. My playing is all about serving the song — creating guitar tracks that lock in with the rhythm section, add depth and texture, and never fight the vocal. Whether you need tight, driving strumming, clean funk comping, or smooth, melodic lines, I’ll deliver parts that fit your production like a glove.

I record with high-end guitars, amps, and signal chain, ensuring tones that are clean, dynamic, and ready to drop straight into your mix. My setup allows me to capture both warm, organic feel and pristine studio clarity. You’ll get professional WAV files, tracked to your project’s specs, with the option for multiple layers, double-tracks, or alternate takes if needed.

Genres I work in: Modern Country, Pop, R&B, Funk, Singer-Songwriter, Americana, and anything that needs tasteful, groove-oriented guitar.

Interview with Mike Eminger

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Any project where my guitar part becomes the thing people remember — that’s what I’m proud of.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently recording guitar parts for a blues-rock project and working on new material for upcoming live shows.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I’m new to the SoundBetter community, so I haven’t collaborated here yet. Once I’ve worked with fellow professionals on the platform, I’ll be happy to recommend those whose work I trust.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. I love the warmth and dynamics of analog gear, but digital tools offer flexibility and recall. I combine them to get the best tone and workflow for each project.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I promise to deliver guitar parts that serve your song, are recorded with great tone, and arrive on time — every time.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love the variety — every project is different. There’s always that excitement of ‘what’s next?’ and the challenge of bringing each song’s unique character to life.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Most clients ask if I can match the tone and feel of a specific artist. My answer: Absolutely — just send me a reference track, and I’ll capture that vibe while still making it unique to your song.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I just play ‘some guitar’ over a track. In reality, every part is crafted to support the song’s groove, arrangement, and emotional impact — often less is more, and every note counts.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I usually ask about the musical vision, preferred style or genre, tempo and key, and whether there are any reference tracks. I also check if they need layered parts, solos, or just rhythm guitar, and confirm the delivery format (DI, amp track, or both).

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be clear about your vision and share reference tracks if possible. The more I understand the sound and feel you’re aiming for, the better I can craft guitar parts that serve your song. If you’re working with a new provider, consider starting with a small test project to make sure it’s the right fit.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Why 5? A Gibson ES-335 — the most versatile guitar ever, a Fender Tweed Deluxe, and a great cable. Sometimes, less really is more.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started playing guitar at the age of 5 with a classical background and have spent decades teaching, performing live, and recording. My studio work has included jingles, musicals, and rock/pop productions in Germany. Today, I focus on creating groove-oriented, song-serving guitar tracks for artists, producers, and commercial projects.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Tasteful, groove-focused guitar work rooted in pop, rock, blues, and r&b.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I’d love to work with artists like John Mayer for his dynamic songwriting and attention to tone, and Chris Stapleton for the raw emotional power in his songs — both offer space for guitar parts that truly complement the music.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Always leave space in your arrangement. A well-placed, simple guitar part with great tone will often serve the song better than playing more notes.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: I usually work on pop, rock, blues, country, and commercial projects — including jingles — that need authentic, tasteful guitar work, from tight Nashville-inspired rhythm parts to melodic fills and atmospheric textures.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Crafting rhythm guitar parts that groove, support the song, and leave space for other instruments — always played with feel, tone, and precision.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I bring tasteful, song-serving guitar parts that enhance the emotional impact without overpowering the arrangement. My focus is on groove, tone, and texture — creating layers that feel natural, inspire the listener, and fit seamlessly into the mix.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I start by discussing the client’s vision and reference tracks to fully understand the style, tone, and feel they’re after. I then record multiple takes — including subtle variations in rhythm, dynamics, and texture — using my selected gear. Once the client reviews the first version, I make any necessary revisions to ensure the part sits perfectly in the mix. Final tracks are delivered as high-quality WAV files, ready to drop into the session.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: My studio is set up for high-quality remote guitar recording, using a carefully selected collection of professional gear rather than an oversized arsenal. I work with premium instruments like a Haar Strat and Tele-style guitars, Dr. Z heads with OX Box for silent recording, and boutique pedals from Wampler, Vertex, Strymon, ... Tracking is done through interface into Logic Pro, delivering clean, mix-ready WAV files tailored to each project

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I draw inspiration from session legends like Tom Bukovac, Kenny Greenberg, Michael Thompson, Paul Jackson Jr., and Jedd Hughes, whose playing combines groove, tone, and taste, always serving the song.”

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: Recording tasteful, song-serving electric guitar parts — from dynamic rhythm layers and melodic fills to atmospheric textures — tailored to fit seamlessly into the client’s arrangement and mix.
