Interview with KING $W$H
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I’m especially proud of my EP 'Bar-Bies,' which I created under the artist name Kei Dii. As the writer, producer, and artist, I embraced total creative freedom—making spontaneous, intuitive decisions without overthinking. This experimental alternative R&B/trap project became my most daring and well-received work, proving how powerful authenticity can be.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently deep in the creative process on three distinct EPs: a raw, lyrical boom-bap collaboration, and two solo projects exploring dark, cinematic soundscapes. It’s a passion-driven journey through rhythm, mood, and storytelling.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I work digitally because it offers limitless creative flexibility, surgical precision, and recallable sessions. Tools like FL Studio and Reaper allow me to quickly experiment with melodies, structure, and mixes while maintaining studio-quality sound. For writing, producing, and mixing—digital is simply unbeatable for workflow and delivering professional results efficiently.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to transform your vision into a dark, melodic, and unforgettable song with razor-sharp wordplay, infectious flows, and a radio-ready demo. You’ll get a collaborative, communicative partner dedicated to making sure you absolutely love the final result—with up to 5 revisions included to perfect it.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: What I love most is the moment a client hears their idea transformed into a full song for the first time. There's nothing like helping someone articulate a feeling or story they couldn't fully express alone. It’s not just writing—it’s building confidence and giving a vision its true sound.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Q: How does the process work? My Answer: We'll start by discussing your vision. I'll then write and record a full demo for you. You get 5 rounds of revisions to perfect it, and I deliver the final files after payment. Q: How long does it take? My Answer: I deliver a first draft within 1-2 days. Revisions are turned around within 24 hours. Q: What’s your style? My Answer: I specialize in dark, melodic Alternative Urban music with clever wordplay and strong hooks—think The Weeknd or Travis Scott’s vibes. Q: What do I get, and do I own it? My Answer: You receive a full demo and own the song 100% after payment. I only retain the right to showcase it in my portfolio. Q: What do you need from me? My Answer: Just your vision—a theme, reference track, or the emotion you want to convey. The more feeling you share, the closer our first draft will be.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception is that songwriting is just writing lyrics. It’s actually about crafting an entire experience: emotion, melody, flow, and structure. I don’t just hand you words on a page; I build a compelling song from the ground up, complete with a professional demo so you can hear the vision come to life.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Questions for Prospective Clients: To Understand Your Vision: What is the main emotion or story for this song? What is your goal for this track? (e.g., release, album, personal) Do you have any reference tracks for style or vibe? Logistics & Process: Do you have an instrumental, or shall I select one? What is your ideal timeline or deadline? What is your preferred style of communication? For the Best Collaboration: Who is the target audience for this music? Are there any specific themes or words to include or avoid? What are your expectations for the final deliverable? Let’s discuss your project—message me anytime!
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: 1. Listen to Their Samples: Your connection to their sound is the most important factor. Do you feel the emotion they convey? 2. Know Your Vision: Even a rough idea of your story or desired mood helps us start strong. 3. Prioritize Communication: Hire someone who is responsive and collaborative throughout the process. 4. Review Their Terms: Understand the revision policy, deliverables, and rights before you book. My goal is to be a transparent partner in bringing your song to life.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: "1. Laptop (with DAW & all my samples) 2. Universal Audio Apollo Interface 3. Neumann TLM 103 Microphone 4. Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro Headphones 5. My Gibson J-45 Acoustic Guitar"
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I began my journey in 2019 as a beatmaker and artist, driven by a passion for the craft. To gain a deeper, technical understanding of how songs come together, I dedicated myself to learning mixing and mastering. This well-rounded experience—from writing and production to final polish—allows me to not just write songs, but to fully realize a complete sonic vision for my clients.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style is a fusion of the dark, cinematic atmosphere of The Weeknd and Travis Scott, the melodic genius of Drake and Post Malone, and the clever, avant-garde wordplay of Kendrick Lamar and JID. I craft songs that are moody and introspective yet carry the undeniable energy and swagger of producers like Metro Boomin and Pharrell.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: I would love to work with The Weeknd. I deeply admire his artistry in crafting dark, atmospheric albums with incredible sonic cohesion. His ability to blend raw emotion with innovative production is exactly the space where I thrive as a writer. Collaborating on a moody, conceptual track would be a dream project.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Trust the emotion of the instrumental first. The story and lyrics will naturally follow.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Alternative Urban Music
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Songwriting
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Dark vibes, clever wordplay, pro demos, and expert beat selection & arrangement.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: 1. Discover Your Vision: It starts with a conversation. I'll ask about your story, the emotion you want to convey, and any reference tracks you have. This ensures we're perfectly aligned from the start. 2. Songwriting & Demo Creation: I'll craft the song structure, write the lyrics and melodies, and record a high-quality demo with my vocals over the chosen instrumental. This gives you a complete picture of the song's potential. 3. Your Review & Feedback: I send you the demo for your thoughts. This is a collaborative stage where your input is crucial. 4. Revisions: We'll refine the song together. My standard package includes [5 revisions] to perfect the track until you love it. 5. Final Delivery: After your final approval and the remaining payment, I'll deliver the full-resolution audio files. You'll own the song, ready for release! My mantra is heavy communication at every step to ensure the final song is exactly what you envisioned.
