By ensuring that I have premium condensers and industry-standard dynamic mics in my setup, I can adapt my signal chain to any vocal texture, while the Neumann MT 48 ensures top-quality conversion and clarity. To guarantee mix-ready results, I use the sE RF PRO Reflexion Filter for consistently dry, isolated takes. I monitor the recordings through Yamaha HS4 nearfields and Beyerdynamic headphones, ensuring the technical quality is as polished and intentional as the songwriting itself.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: For toplining, I typically begin by immersing myself in the instrumental to establish a strong melodic direction that feels natural to the track. For vocal projects, I focus on understanding the rhythm, tone, and flow so I can enter the song seamlessly. Across all projects, I keep clients involved throughout the process. I like to share the rationale behind key creative decisions to ensure we stay aligned and confident in the direction. I am always happy to do written walkthroughs because the process is as interesting and exciting as the output. My goal at the end of the day, is to deliver melodies and vocals that feel authentic, memorable, and emotionally connected to the sound, while aligning with the client's definition of good.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I primarily work as a topline songwriter and vocalist, creating melodies and vocal arrangements for existing instrumentals. It is my core strength, and it is where I’ve developed the most experience. Alongside toplining, I also write and refine lyrics, helping shape ideas into cohesive, engaging songs. My focus is always on delivering strong melodies, emotive vocals, and a sound that feels both distinctive and commercially viable.
