Interview with James Hixon
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: I love the analog sound. But digital is just superior in terms of flexibility and cleanliness. Plus, with the right software, digital can sound just as good as analog.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: You will get the highest quality work I'm able to provide. I do not take shortcuts.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love making things sound good. It's a special feeling to hear where something started vs where I was able to take it.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started at a small production company in 2002. Then started at a megachurch in 2005 where I spent the next 18 years. I am now independent.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: John Mayer. His songwriting and virtuosity are second to none.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Attention to detail. I pride myself on precise, clean editing.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a modest setup consisting of a PC, Pro Tools, a variety of plugins, CLA-10s, and Mackie HR824s.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Chris Lord-Alge
