David Rogers | Mixing Engineer on SoundBetter

I mix country, folk, indie rock, and singer-songwriter music with a focus on clear, professional sound that reflects the artist’s unique vision. 20+ years in music, 15 years behind the console.

I deliver transparent, emotionally resonant, release-ready mixes and masters for artists in country, folk, indie rock, and singer-songwriter genres. My philosophy is simple: the mix should serve the song and reflect your vision, not mine. Whether your track is intimate and raw or ambitious and layered, I’ll collaborate with you closely to get it there.

Over two decades of working in recording, production, and post have sharpened my ears and methods. I bring a balance of technical precision and musical sensitivity—actively listening, tweaking, and refining until we both feel the song has arrived.

I work in Logic Pro and rely on a curated toolkit (UAD, FabFilter, SoundToys, Waves, Valhalla) to deliver clarity, depth, and musical impact. Expect fast turnarounds, honest communication, and a mix or master you can confidently release or hand off to the next stage.

I’m particularly passionate about:
- Helping singer-songwriters, acoustic/Americana acts, and independent projects get polished results
- Translating the emotional intent of your song into sonic detail
- Walking clients through revision feedback so the final product isn’t just good—it’s yours

Let’s make your music sound exactly how you hear it (or better!).

Working with David was an easy and creative process. He really understood the live, rough sound we were going for on People Live in These Hills and made everything feel warm, alive, and cohesive. The final mixes and masters sounded better than we imagined.

Interview with David Rogers | Mixing Engineer

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: What is (at least 1) track I should reference for your song (in terms of vibe, instrumentation, tone)? Do you have a rough mix you'd like me to reference? The basics: BPM, Key, etc.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: My approach is musical and collaborative. I want to find the heart of your track and bring it forward; I’m not interested in imposing a “mix formula.” I place emphasis on vocal clarity, organic dynamics, space, and cohesion, always tailoring choices to what the song needs.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: Listening—really listening to what the artist wants, what the song demands, and then sculpting the mix to align those. I also pride myself on fast, intelligent responses in revision phases: not just doing what you ask, but anticipating how it fits into the bigger picture.
