Interview with patattack.ch
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: On own fusion songs
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To use my technical knowledge and the current technical possibilities as required
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Why does it sound better loud? Why does it sound better with a light show and even louder?
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: To create good from poor performance.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. - Analog is infinite and, for me, feels better in terms of feel. - Digital is practically portable and is now just as good as analog.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: - Open, honest communication - Transparent approach - Always informed of the latest status
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: - Warwick Tumb 5 - Spare strings - Swiss Army knife (officer's version) - My glasses - Notebook (Analog)
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: very colorful, dynamic and, if necessary, powerful with a lot of assertiveness
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Keep technology away from performers. (If your head is full of technology, you can't perform freely.)
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: I'm goal-oriented and always work toward the end result. I'm a musician myself and understand the recording process from the performer's perspective. I'm up-to-date with the latest technology. Through my more than 35 years as a musician and engineer, I've actively witnessed the entire development of recording techniques to date. If necessary, I can also use old-school equipment that has aged alongside me for recording. I also have various great-sounding instruments available in my studio. I'm a certified HOFA College sound engineer.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: During a recording project, I try to unobtrusively envelop the band/artist with my technical and musical knowledge. I want to capture their interpretation in the highest quality. The performance is paramount. To achieve this, I need to get a feel for the performer and get to know them musically.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: II work with Macs. Primarily "in the box." I use outboard for testing various setups while listening and especially analyzing. This works better for me because of the tactile feel. My listening room is calibrated and acoustically designed accordingly. I'm also equipped for recording sessions outside of my studio.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Dream Theater, Mohini Day, Ghost Notes, Simon Philips, Toto, Markus Miller, Jimmi Hendrix
